Default Help with weird video problem please

I was hoping someone could help me figure out whats going on. I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to a Sony KDL-40W4100. When I watch Blu-Rays sometimes parts of the picture get this weird grey "pixelation". It seems to happen only in darker shaded parts of the picture when there is quick movement. Does anyone have any idea what this is? Thanks in advance.

whay type of HDMI cable are you using? Length? Are you running HDMI to a receiver and then another HDMI to the tv?..or just straight to the tv?

ok, and this is every movie you watch?...or just a couple? Does it happen in the same spot of the movie everytime?...or totally random To be sure, if your watching a movie and this pixelation happens, if you rewind the movie some to view the same scene, does it happen exactly like the first time?

sorry for all the questions, but it's the only way to get to the bottom of the problem.

There is a scene in the movie Australia that I notice it most in and I see it every time. I have tried going through the scene frame by frame and it isnt there when I do that.

give me a rundown of what your PS3 is set to do. Also, is your PS3 fully updated? If you don't have it directly hooked up to the internet, feed that thing an ethernet cable, and select update to see if your behind on the latest. Otherwise, go to your video settings and list what everything is selected at. You may just want to run the setup again, HDMI and what not. So your not using an AVR at all?...or your doing that through the optical cable? That is a 1080p tv, right?

do you listen to audio through the tv speakers? If not, set the HDMI audio off, because then it will only send video. Try turning super white off. You may also want to experiement with changing video format to RBG instead of the Y color format. Try flipping a few of those around and see if it changes anything. If we don't get anywhere with this, I'm going to start leaning towards the tv being the problem, but I find it strange that this is happening in that particular part of Australia. Also when you said you go frame by frame and the pixels are not there might have something to do with the motion setting on your tv. Regardless, mess with the PS3 again to see if there is a difference.

I tried those suggestions and it didn't make any difference. I'm kind of thinking it may be the tv also.

see what you can do with the motion settings on your set. With the 120hz sets, things are bound to be sometimes problematic because of the motion blur whacha-ma-call-it.

That's what I thought right away. The motion enhancers on 120Hz TV's introduce artifacts. Try turning your Cinemotion, or whatever it's called, all the way off.

Thanks for your help. It looks like it was the CineMotion that was causing it. If I set it to "Off" or "Auto 2" its fine but if I have it set to "Auto 1" it causes problems.
