In the end, I hope Blu-Ray comes out on top!

"Toshiba, is the world's third-largest notebook computer maker behind Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co." I dont think this is much of a worry since both Dell and HP are both backing Blu-ray. Toshiba maybe the third largest makers but Dell and HP are the first and second. I still believe Blu-ray will win.

Interesting though to see that Microsoft is going to put HD-DVD drives in Xbox 360s *eventually*.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26531

Although this will mean that the Xbox will only be significantly worse than the PS3 (rather than laughably so) does it mean that people who buy Xbox 360s when they first come out won't be able to run later 360 games without an upgrade?

I know this may not seem completely on-topic, but remember it was the PS2 that established DVDs in the first place. This is the arena in which the HD-DVD vs Blu-ray battle will begin.

Ths difference this time, however, is that less than 5% of households have a HDTV in the Uk, whereas practically everyone would have had a tv with a scart or svhs input, (practically the only requirement for dvd). How many people are gonna want to replace their tv that works perfectly fine, for an (currently) expensive HDTV. Especially as crts still give users the best pictures. Plus a lot of people have only just built up their dvd collection and are quite happy with the PQ/sound etc, and won't be interested in replacing their collection as people did replacing vhs tapes with dvds.

That article is fubar, M$ has never confirmed/said they'll put HD-DVD drives into the Xbox 360.

Nope, they sure didn't. They only said (Bill Gates) might consider a future release with HD-DVD support. If that happens, people who bought the XBOX 360 at launch will be very upset.
