I noticed the cs1 is priced highr is it the better center of the two?
Can either(cs1 or cs2)be used with monitor 50's or 60's? |

The CS1 or the CS2 would go great with the Monitor 50's / 60's. The CS2 is the larger, more powerful center. I am not sure why the CS1 would be priced higher. Go for the CS2!

The CS2 has a larger driver than the 50's or 60's, (6.50" to 5.25") This is not to say it would not sound great, but you do usually want to match the driver size of your speakers in the front soundstage. The CS1 has the same driver size as your 50's or 60's (5.25"), and would create a more seemless front soundstage. However, I do find it hard to believe you would not get some improvement with dialogue with the CS2 over the CS1. You can always adjust the settings in your receiver to make the CS2 match the level of output from your 50's and 60's. IMO, get the CS2, it is a better center channel and it is cheaper. NewEgg always has great sales, and it is probably cheaper because of simple supply and demand.

I love my set-up, and the CS1 and 60's are basically the exact same thing. |

Also, on the flip side, if you get a center speaker with larger drivers, it will not over power your other speakers. The main reason people say to get matching speakers across the front soundstage is so the sounds are identical as a scene moves from one speaker to another. If the tweeters are not the same, you may hear differences if a person walks across an empty echoing room. The same goes with midrange drivers. If they are not the same size, certain frequencies may sound a little different (usually the bigger they are, the boomier they may sound) which may result in an uneven effect. |

Either Polk Speaker (CS-1 or CS-2) are incredible performers and priced far below what either of their values are.
I am like Forsberg and have the CS10 and am more the Happy with its incredible performance. The CS1 is a match with all of the Monitor speakers(except the Monitor 70's(which us 6 1/2 inch woofers,so the CS2 is a complete match for the Monitor 70's) So,I personally would go for whichever speaker you have room for(the CS2 is a large speaker)and if you think at any point and time you may upgrade your front speakers then the CS2 may be a better choice as it would be less likely to need an upgrade. But due to the size, match with the Monitor 50's/60's,and that it is normally the lower priced of the 2 speakers,I would choose the CS1(but still give the CS2 Very Serious Consideration). |

I would think it would sound great. They are timber matched and most Polks (except perhaps the Lsi, VM and RTi line) will timber match each other IMO. I like the CS2, and NewEgg had a great deal on them recently too. Too bad I wasn't in the market for one.

thanks for the feed back guys, Im close to making a few purchases to start my HT, I have the receiver clearly set in my mind(pioneer vsx 03) and I've been leaning towards Polk speakers for awhile.
I was bidding on ebay for a two polk fronts(50's) and center cs2 it was a package but I lost the bid....so Im looking at still adding parts a few at a time, my plan is to purchase the receiver & 2 fronts...then add the center. Will dialoge be an issue w/o the center? |

For me, this is how it would go. In this order.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407 http://www.premieracoustic.com/buyno...red+Subwoofers http://stores.channeladvisor.com/the...0%20Watt%20Sub Each can be found for under $350. $350 for the eD $229.00 for the PA-120 $198.88 for the Acoustic Audio HD-SUB12 |
