We Have a LG GGW H20L Burner.
We have a 2 hour home movie shot in HD and using Pinnacle 12 ultimate to edit and final Blu Ray master. We ALWAYS when transcoding to Blu Ray, do a test copy on a BD-RE 1-2x and if that is ok we then do, in this case a TDK 1-2x BD-R. We have done this procedure twice and in both cases the BD- RE 1-2x works perfectly but the TDK 1-2x BD-R fails after transcoding approx 10 minutes of the movie. Another thing we noticed is that when writing the Lead In, the BD-RE 1-2x took a minute or two but the TDK 1-2x BD-R. took at least 15 minutes or more We then tried a TDK 1-4x BD-R and that worked perfectly. The only difference I can see between them is the TDK BD-R 2x is version 1.1 and the TDK BD-R 4x is version 1.2. I dont know what version the BD-RE 1-2x is except it is Panasonic and it comes with the LG GGW H20. Can anyone offer why and is there a solution so I can use the TDK BD-R 2x as I have a pack of 20. |

I've heard that some drives (including this one) on occassion won't read certain brands of medium. However, after searching newegg.com I found this possible solution though I've never done it. Here's a word for world solution from one of the reviewers for the LG GGW-H20L
"PLAYS AND BURNS DISC WITH NO PROBLEMS, I USE TDK, VERBATIM, SOME DL BLURAYS THE WRITE SPEEDS ARE 4X MAX, HAS A FAIRLY LONG LIST OF SUPPORTED MEDIA. IF ONE USES MEDIA CODE SPEED EDIT (SEE CD FREAKS.COM) ONE CAN ADD MEDIA CODES TO FIRMWARE, THIS WILL VOID ONES WARRANTY, BUT IT IS USUALLY HARMLESS, AND IF ONES MEDIA IS UNSUPPORTED THIS IS A WAY TO GET IT TO WORK. NICE DRIVE, VERY SOLID, NICE FINISH TOO. FW SITE A BIT OF A CHALANGE TO NAVIGATE." Granted, the reviewer says this can void a warranty.... For what it's worth, many reviewers have said Verbatim was a top quality brand producing little to no coasters. You might want to give that brand a try, too. |
