Default LG GGW-H20L Problem

Hi.

I've got a problem with my new GGW-H20L drive, and would be grateful for any solution or suggestion.

I'm currently running Vista, and have the drive installed ok - I've been able to write data successfully to two BD-RE disks via Nero INCD.

However, if I try Nero Burning ROM and insert a BD-R, nero locks up and becomes unresponsive. I've also tried CDBurnerXP with identical results.

It's not a firmware issue, as I can connect the drive to another PC (incidentally with XP installed) via a SATA to USB converter cable, and the BD-R is recognised and accepted (by CDBurnerXP) as you would expect.

I did, however attempt a firmware upgrade on my Vista PC, but was not allowed to proceed as the update advised me to remove the disk, even when the drive was empty.

Any ideas on how to get the BD-R disks recognised?

Do you have the Nero BD plugin, if not I don't think it'll work.

Also, I have the exact same drive, mine came with Cyberlink burning software... if yours did too I suggest you it as well, I haven't had any problems with my software.

Hello, and thank you for your replies.

I'm not in a position to try your suggestions at the moment (I'm at work) but I really don't think the installation of nero has anything to do with the problem. Firstly, nero has worked quite happily for a while on my other DVD drives, and as I said, the problem isn't restricted to Nero - it has presented on CDBurnerXP too, and Nero INCD has worked fine on the drive with a BD-RE disk.

With this in mind, I don't expect much of a difference using Cyberlink. I will try, but I'm happy using software with which I am familiar and would like to resolve the issues using that software. Anyway, isn't the bundled software a trial version?

Any suggestions regarding Nero and/or CDBurnerXP would be very appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.

As I said, I have used InCD successfully on a BD-RE. I now want to use Nero Burning ROM (not INCD) on a BD-R disc. It is with a BD-R disc ONLY that I am experiencing the lock up. I am also getting a lock up using CDBurnerXP. The drive works ok (with a BD-R) connected to another machine via a USB cable.

What brand of media are you using? Have you tried another brand of BD-R media and/or another disc?

Thanks for your reply. I am using Verbatim BD-R DL. The disc can be accessed if the drive is connected via USB, but not SATA, so the disc must be OK.

I have now had the opportunity to connect the drive via USB on the same PC that doesn't accept the disc when it is connected via SATA, and it works, so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the drive or discs.

How do I get the BD-R discs to be recognised when the drive is connected via SATA?

I am not offering any real advice since I don't have the expertise, but I am curious whether you tried BD-R not DL in the SATA configuration? Also how much free disk space do you have, over 50GB? Since I think that drive is an internal drive how do you connect it via USB? And of course have you tried burning a small file to the media, probably a costly coaster for you? I believe I have the same drive installed as SATA and recently noticed the icon for quick access disappeared recently but since I have not been using it I wasn't really paying attention to it. Lots of quirks with Blu-ray drives it seems.
