Default Adjusting New Fronts/center to match Surrounds.

I recently purchased new Fronts/center. I have Onkyo HTIB surround speakers that make up a 7.1 setup.

In order to reach the calibration dB, I need to increase the rest of the speakers up to their max which is +12dB.

My question is, Is it bad raise the volume of the surround speakers in order to reach the reference level or should i lower the fronts/center in order to find a balance.

Thank You

Maybe a little of both. However, as long as they are all at the same level, you should be pretty good.

Not sure if you will get any distortion by having them at the max +12 level. Don't know enough about that stuff.

Be careful, usually HTiB surrounds are only 4 ohms or less and if you bought new fronts and a center, they are usually 8 ohms. If this is the case, you could fry your receiver trying to push those surrounds, especially if you are giving them +12db's in order for them to keep up.....my suggestion is don't even try to do it and get those new surrounds to keep up with your new center and fronts ASAP!

Good point!

My brain wasn't going there last night when I posted, but follow fors's advice. Buy more speakers!

let us know what model your current HTIB reciever is (most of the times, onkyo would pair a 304 with em) and we can see its resistance.

in answering your question tho, as stated, a little bit of both, adjusting both the fronts and the surrounds so not one essential speaker would 'stand out' so to speak. ive always considered using a SPL meter to properly calibrate whatever speakers we have, but some people just dont see the need for em, which i of course respect.

if theres also an option, check the speaker distances as well, to further enhance your experience with your HT.
