Question surrounds dont match front soundstage

hi, my friend just recently purchased some rtia7 fronts and csia6 center (like i own) and is looking to get some bookshelf surrounds for it (to make 5.1)

he does not want to spend as much as i have for my fxia4 surrounds and a pair of polk m10 bookshelves are on sale for $99

question is...are they compatible? i know that your front soundstage is a must to match, but does it matter if the surrounds do?

i got mine to match because i am anal about stuff like that...but are there any distinct cons in getting bookshelves that arent 'timbre matched'?

thanks

I'd say that it'd take superb hearing to really hear a difference of "timbre", you're safe staying within a brand name though and don't necessarily need the same model line within the brand, as best as I know.

He will be Perfectly fine in using Polk M10's as surrounds.

They are very closely voice matched and have some things in common wth their Bigger Brothers.

He could get a pair of Polk Monitor 30's for $99.00 new from Newegg. They are a step up from the M-10s,and will match the fronts even more then the M-10's would.
Similar woofers and tweeters using many of the same components that are incorperated in the RTi's

Here is a link to the Monitor 30's:

And the surrounds do not have to be an exact match as long as they are pretty close.Just like I use Polks for my fronts and Klipsch for my Surrounds. And they blend in almost seamlessly with no noticeable shift in sound when the Surrounds Kick In.
