Default Sony PS3 or Sony BDP-S1

i have had my heart set on importing a Sony bdp-s1 from the states for a while now, but i have read on here that the PS3 is just as good if not better...

does the ps3 offer an option to plug it into a amp as part of a home cinema set up?

also which is better in your opinion?

also where is best for buying a US PS3 that will ship to the UK?

thanks

The PS3 has an HDMI out, an optical out, and an A/V multi-out (this can be used to connect with composite and component cables, and probably RGB, as well). You can select where the audio output comes from, the HDMI or the optical port, as well as what signals will be sent by these outputs. Optical outputs cannot output PCM of more than two channels. So, if you want uncompressed audio your receiver must have an HDMI input. If it does not, and you still want the uncompressed audio, the bdp-s1 has analog audio outs, which the PS3 does not have.

PS3 is a Great Blu-ray player. Outputing standard 5.1 audio through optical sound better with Blu-ray than DVD.

later movies will have lossless audio formats. These formats can be transcoded to a lossy but very high bitrate standard 5.1 audio, which can still be passed over optical.

Though PS3 needs a firmware (which is still in the works) update to decode HD 5.1 audio tracks.
