Default Universal released 33 titles in quarter 2...

And we still kicked their ass. God help them when Fox comes back and our big guns for this year hit the shelves. Their only hope was Bourne or is Bourne as Evan has already began to flounder at week 2.

Alot of those movies Universal released were just slapped together and lack the jaw dropping pq we come to expect with our bds.

LOL, HD-DVD is regressing. While we may have had some bad transfers in the beginning, HD-DVD is getting bad transfers now.

Why is Universal the only exclusive major Studio that decided to support HDDVD...

I loled irl!!

Yep BD gets better HDDUD gets worse.

I've heard Universal is under contract to release a certain number of titles before they can go neutral.

Like I mentioned in another thread Universal is dumping this summer while Blu-ray is taking the summer off. At first I thought this strategy would pay off big time for HD DVD (bringing the numbers closer to 60% Blu / 40% Red). However, I think the Blu-ray camp realized they were caught with their pants down and now we see the 5 disc free sale. Hopefully this strategy pays off and the numbers will remain at 70/30. Hopefully Blu-ray will release a massive amount of quality titles through the holidays putting the final nail in the coffin. HD DUD - rest in peace.

I still take the studio seriously, but they seem to be stubborn in their continued support for, in my opinion, a technologically inferior format. The factual statements that have been made regarding the picture quality really surprised me. With all the statements made from Universal regarding the quality of their releases and their continued exclusivity to HD-DVD, you would think that they would be working as hard as they can to put out as many quality titles as they could.

I won't celebrate until this is over though. Now with BD+ finalized, and the costs of BD players dropping fast, we just have to keep promoting Blu-Ray amongst people we know in a good way.

Some of their superior titles recently released
Mystery Men 3 stars
Liar Liar 3 stars
Daylight 3 stars
Bruce Almighty 3 stars
Midnight Run 3 stars
Monty Python Meaning of Life 2.5 stars
Universal not cleaning any of these up and just pumping them out to bolster content. HD Digest's favorite format and our favorite reviewer gave these marks to above titles. Their newer titles fair better but it just goes to show that a few less titles means nothing when the bds are getting great reviews and theirs aren't.

Angry Not so fast...

Hey! I'd LOVE to see Mystery Men and Meaning of Life on BD! Just a shame if they don't get the cleaned up royal treatment... At least I would have something to buy since my disappointing purchase of Big Fish nearly 4 months ago. That's right, no new BD's in 4 mo.

If content is the key - then WHERE'S MY FREAKIN' CONTENT!!!

wow... surely there must be something out of the myriad of releases over the last few months thats taken an interest? lol... right now I've got 8 releases in the post or on pre-order alone for the month coming. Was Big Fish that much of a dissapointment to you mate? I know they deliberately had two main film stocks that contrasted each other. Real world=grainy and muted palette while the Fantasy world=clear as a whistle and vibrant colours. The grain was what the director intended not a bad transfer in itself.

The longer this silly format "war" goes on the more one sided it'll go. You only have to look at the number of films universal are planning on filming over the next couple of years and compare that to what Sony, Fox and Disney have in the works for the same time period.. it's that funny it's almost tragic..

I understand the bad blood between MS and sony (xbox vs. ps2). I thought that toshiba helped develope the cell processor in the ps3. So I don't know why there would be bad blood between them

Actually the Cell processor itself is an IBM and Sony creation, but the Super Companion Chip was designed by Toshiba. The two chips together make the Cell Broadband Engine which is what is inside the PS3.

Toshiba has always been seen as a bit of a black sheep within the Japanese CE companies as they pro-actively seek partnerships with Western (read: US) companies and seem to go out of their way to avoid working with other Japanese companies.

Also since Sony caved on the physical structure of DVD and lost out on $billions in patent royalties in the process there has been a lot of bad blood between the two CE divisions of the company.

For bad blood between NBC Universal and Sony see the "Sony Corp. of America vs Universal City Studios Inc." court case.
