Default Universal announces 4th Quarter titles

Old article, but internal memos take awhile to reach all areas under the NBC Uni umbrella...

Quote:
UPIE to release first Blu-ray titles in Q3
Source: UPIE

04 March 2008

Following the recent news that Toshiba will discontinue HD DVD and the review of our hi-def strategy, Universal Pictures International Entertainment will release our first Blu-ray titles in Q3.

We are in the process of confirming exact titles and release dates but our Blu-ray strategy will initially be driven by new releases/drafting opportunities.

We are genuinely excited about the growth opportunities that a single hi-def format will bring, and we remain focused on our growth goal of being the leading player in hi-definition across all OpCos.

We have some fantastic opportunities with our Q4 slate, including Hulk, Wanted, Mummy 3 and the entire Mummy franchise, as well as the American Gangster extended edition.

We will stop releasing HD DVD titles in March (titles will vary across OpCos) and the OpCos have been doing a great job of clearing HD DVD stock in preparation for the market transition to Blu-ray.

When we have more details on our Blu-ray release schedule these will be communicated
So we still don't know what Q3 will bring us from Uni's first blu releases, but we now know we'll have Hulk, Wanted, American Gangster, and the entire Mummy franchise on blu in Q4. Looks like this Christmas will be blu...again.

Sorry if this is all old news. I did a search and didn't see anything official regarding this.

Edit: Here's the link to the story, but it is available only on the GE/NBCUni Intranet, so it can only be accessed on computers within the company. So if Josh (or anyone else for that matter) knows anyone within GE/NBCUni they can confirm this link independently: http://nbcu.home.ge.com/portal/site/...ortlet_id=5385

First I've heard of this, it's always good to get some news of any kind. Those all sound like they could be great titles to have.

I don't know, seems a little odd to me. Why would Universal be excited about the clearing out of HD-DVD's. I would think they would want them to sell, make some of there money back.

It doesnt sureprise me that these titles will be coming in Q4. It is a safe bet that all theatrical releases from here on out will have day and date release on blu which is always good. Cant wait to get these!

Yeah, not much mystery that Universal's big summer releases will come to Blu in the 4th quarter.

even if it is an april fools joke. We all know that the hulk, mummy 3, and wanted will make day and date during the holiday shopping season. I asked Bill in his thread if all summer blockbusters will make release and he said expect them all except for maybe some indie stuidos. You can also expect Uni and the other studios to cross promote titles together, so mummy franchise all at once is a given.

The only part that questions me about Uni internal letter is the fact that they dont make mention to any catalog titles(other than american gangster and mummy 1 & 2) already released on the dead format. However, you can expect Bourne series at the bare minimum to see release as well this year.

I believe that may be referring to the original craptastic Hulk, not the reboot entitled Incredible Hulk.

My mistake. I thought the new one was a different studio. Oh well, I hope we get both then.

If this is true which it probably is I will definitely get American Gangster, Wanted I'll have to see first. I don't like the Mummy movies. Also when they say Hulk are they talking the new Edward Norton one?? If so I'll take that too, I don't want the Eric Bana one.

UPIE is Universal Pictures International Entertainment. I doubt they call the shots on which titles get released, regardless of whether this is true or not.

Man, I hope Hulk is true and among the first. That probably my most anticipated Uni title.

He did make a cameo!

Seriously though... if the series does well, I would hope they just add the movie in with a 1st Season Set.
