I am using RG6 RCA cable from monoprice.
I have done some cables with RG6 and RG59 and I notice most RG6s are for CATV and have aluminum outer braid. Wouldn't I want stranded copper for both inner and outer conductor for audio signal to the subwoofer.. instead of the RG cables. Would I get better sound from a better cable..? |

No, the RG6 subwoofer cable is made for the use with subwoofers. RG6 cables aren't required to power the subwoofer itself and only are used to send a relatively small amount of data to the subwoofer while avoiding line noise and other things (hence the shielding).

The difference between RG59 and RG6 are the thickness of the center conductor which carries the signal, and also the shielding of that conductor. RG6, which is very similar to RG59, has a thicker center conductor for less signal loss on longer runs. RG6 has an aluminum braid and an aluminum shield, while RG59 comes with a copper braid.
RG6 has a little less signal loss, or attenuation, over 100 feet. RG6 has a better design for maintaining the signal levels inside the center conductor, especially over longer runs. This is the reason RG6 has become the standard for broadband CATV and satellite systems. A basic rule of thumb is to use RG6 for any Rapid Frequencies, and use RG59 for video frequencies. For any broadband CATV or satellite system, RG6 is recommended by all the experts. For any signals that are video frequencies RG 59 will be adequate but RG6 could be used as well. |
