I'm new to this forum as well as full HD plasma televisions in general, I need a little help.
I purchased a TC-P42U1 yesterday, and although the picture is great I'm not noticing the 24p playback. I've seen movies being played in stores in 24p and love the look, I bought this TV thinking I would get the same effect but I see no difference. I have my Sony BDP-S350 set to 1080p with 24p turned on and HDMI plugged into the TV. There are no options under the menus on the TV to turn on or off the 24p. I'm frustrated because this was one of the major contributing factors for buying this TV. The picture looks incredible don't get me wrong, I just feel like I'm missing out. Is it just that much more subtle than the TV's in store or am I doing something wrong? |

The U1 series does not have true 24p playback. It will accept the signal, but it converts internally to 3:2 pulldown, which is the same as not playing in 24p mode at all. If you go to their website and look at the specifications for the set, you'll see that it says "24p cinematic: NO; 24p (2:3): YES".
The only current Panasonic plasmas that offer true 24p "cinematic" playback (i.e. NO 3:2 pulldown) are the G10/G15 (48Hz) and the V10 (48Hz or 96Hz). |

I noticed the Panasonic site saying "24p cinematic: NO; 24p (2:3): YES", I just didn't know if there was a difference. Again, I'm very new to this.
![]() Okay, so at least I can stop tinkering with the menus trying to figure it out. Guess I'll have to wait for my next TV purchase to get cinematic playback. A little dissapointing but I'll get over it. Thank you very much for the help. |

I fear that what you saw was an LCD's 'motion enhancement' setting rather than 24p. Does look cool in stores, and some do like it in general, but many get sick of it after a while. |
