No, I'm not throwing down thousands of dollars more for yet another new TV.

I like 3d though i'm not gonna jump for it the second its out since i'm sure so much of that will cost a good amount. Will probably wait for prices do drop and for it to improve awhile after it's release. Not saying i think it will look bad at first but i'm sure will advance maybe a bit more.

No, not excited in the least.

In my case, though, I don't see very well out of my right eye, so the whole 3-D effect is worthless to me.

I am looking forward to it, will be a big improvement to what the current situation is. I need to buy a new tv anyways. For everyone who isn't looking forward to it b/c they just bought a new tv, what kind of tv did u get? Everyone still buying 60hz lcds? TVs over the last year have been saying they are 3D compatible.

If it means a new TV - NO!
If it means wearing funny little glasses - NO!
If it means more films with stupid scenes of flying axes/arrows etc - NO!

3D only works well in cinemas with a super sized screen. If the studios want to build me one then who am I to say NO!

Forget 3D and bring on a holographic TV

The "3D ready" TVs currently sold by Mitsubishi and Samsung won't fully comply with the upcoming Blu-ray 3D specifications which call for full 1080p resolution for each eye. The current generation of "3D ready" TVs, although they claim a 120Hz refresh rate, only effectively deliver half of that resolution in 3D mode. They present each frame in a "checkerboard" pattern, drawing each left/right image on every other pixel on each refresh cycle like so:

LxLxLx...
LxLxLx...
LxLxLx...

and then:

xRxRxR...
xRxRxR...
xRxRxR...

You wear LCD "shutterglasses" which synchronize to the TVs refresh rate and alternately "black out" the left lens when the right image is displayed and the right lens when the left image is displayed.

But at any given moment in time, you are only seeing half of the total number of pixels in each eye.

That being said, there may be future 3D Blu-ray players that will support these existing checkerboard displays, but they would effectively need to "downsample" the full resolution present on 3D discs.

I'm in! I can't wait for 3-D at home! Although, I will have to wait until I have enough money saved up to afford all this new tech.

Not really that excited for it, but maybe I will change my mind if it actually turns out to be worthwhile.
