Funny or Die founder and all around Will Ferrell comedy buddy Adam McKay is plotting to make Will hilarious again. I know, it may seem like awhile since you last laughed at a Will Ferrell movie, but that’s only because you underappreciated Step-Brothers, their 2008 outing together. Or maybe you saw Land of the Lost which, granted, seemed like it went on forever and ever. But McKay and Ferrell are together again and you can bet your bottom dollar it’ll result in laughter-induced vomiting.

The movie is called The Other Guys and both Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have been on board to star for awhile. Now THR says Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, and Damon Wayans Jr. have been added into the mix. Actually is there anyone in this movie who isn’t in need of a career reboot? Things have gotten so bad for Keaton that THR didn’t even bother to list him in their headline, opting to go with Eva Mendes (hot off one of the biggest superhero flops of all time no less) instead. Michael Keaton was Batman! Things for Mr. Mom have really gotten bad.

The Other Guys is an action comedy in which Ferrell and Wahlberg play cops. If he’s smart, McKay will write a hilarious scene in which Wahlberg mistakes a potted plant for an informant, and only discovers his error after a thorough questioning. Come on Adam, let’s make that scene happen. No word yet on what part the three newcomers will play in the film, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict that Michael Keaton plays the plant. Seriously, his career is really in the shit.

This will either be good or so bad its good. Been waiting along time for Keaton to get back into comedy...hopefully this means Multiplicity 2 isn't too far off.

The buddy cop comedy The Other Guys, which was tentatively entitled The B Team has two new recruits. According to Variety, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson will co-star in the film, that is being headlined by Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Production on the Columbia produced feature starts tomorrow and will be directed by Adam McKay.

The Other Guys centers on a pair of second string cops who try to gain respect and admiration from their law enforcement peers. Jackson and Johnson will play an elite pair of police officers who have everything they want and more. Their exploits are the envy of everyone in their department including Wahlberg and Ferrell’s characters. McKay co-wrote the script for the film along with Chris Henchy.

This is a step in a semi-positive direction for Johnson, because I was one family film away from cutting him off. Earlier today we released the poster for his latest film, The Tooth Fairy, and it’s not his best look. This film will also come as a much needed comedic break for Wahlberg. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him in a lighter role.

The Other Guys hits theaters on August 6, 2010.

Unofficial photos have evidently leaked from the Big Apple set of Adam McKay’s The Other Guys. As First Showing notes, these might as well be premature studio-approved stills from the action comedy, which just began filming and is due late summer 2010. Missing from the pics are new recruits Sam Jackson and Dwayne “Tooth Fairy” Johnson as the badass cops to Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s desk-assigned officers. I expected the latter duo to look goofier and less kempt—no vintage Panama City t-shirts?—but the style is in line with what McKay has called a less surreal tone when compared to his classics, Anchorman and Step Brothers…

Shown above are Rob Riggle and Damon Wayans Jr. as yet another police duo in the film. There has been speculation that Wayans Jr. has replaced Craig Robinson (The Office) in the role of Riggle’s partner. This photo points in favor of the rumor.

Also appearing in the film in unspecified roles are Michael Keaton, overdue for a comeback, and Eva Mendes, who deals with a different kind of cop ****-up in Werner Herzog and Nic Cage’s upcoming Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans. The primary villain in the film will be played by Steve Coogan, who has successfully transferred some of his U.K. comedy rep to the U.S. mainstream with Tropic Thunder and Hamlet 2; I doubt McKay will have a problem finally unlocking all of his crazy genius in a summer blockbuster.

It’s funny that seeing Ferrell in a drab desk-cop suit and anal retentive spectacles can change your mental picture of a flick. Looking forward to this one much more than Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks, whose production has had troubled buzz of late. If you’re still vague on what Guys is about, McKay explains…

“Basically the idea is that you have your star cops of New York City, picture like a Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson-type pair,” McKay explained. They’re the guys who get all the car chases, all the girls. But this is the story of the guys in the desk next to them, the other guys. …The premise is you have the stud cops in New York City, and the other cops are the wannabes who want to be the stud cops,” he explained. “So Ferrell and Wahlberg have another pair of cops who are competing with them to be the stars.

This should be very interesting.

While a trailer for director Adam McKay’s The Other Guys has yet to be released, a Sony video stand at ShoWest has a brief look at the interaction between Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. In the film, the two plays cops that never get in on any of the good cases. But when an opportunity arises for “The Other Guys” to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.

As a huge fan of Ferrell and McKay’s last films (Step Brothers, Anchorman, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), I cannot wait for this August when the film is getting released. Hit the jump to check out the 30 second clip.

Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.

Sony has finally released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg-starrer Adam McKay-directed action/comedy The Other Guys. Strangely, we’re getting the teaser after the release of a funny motion poster a few weeks ago. So while this is the first teaser trailer, we’ve technically already been teased, in full motion.

The teaser does a good job at introducing the concept of the film — they aren’t the star no-holds-barred cops we’re used to. These are “The Other Guys”. And while the concept is great, the cast is awesome, I laughed less than I had expected to (and this is a guy who laughed at that short motion poster). I just watched both the motion poster and the trailer and while I have to agree with the article in saying I laughed more at the motion poster than the trailer, the cast alone has me interested. This has potential.
