Default Purple Haze on tv

This problem started yesterday. I don't know what the problem is. I have my PS3 hooked up to my TV through HDMI cable and surround sound through digital audio cable.

The PS3 screen comes up fine, but when I try to watch a movie, you know when the TV goes black and then the movie starts, well my tv screen turns purple. And the movie has a purple haze over the whole image.

MY tv automatically finds a HDMI source so if I unplug the HDMI and plug it into another HDMI input the image is fine, but if I where to just unplug then plug it back into the same HDMI port its still purple.

Does anyone have any idea why this happens? Also interestingly enough, when I change movies the problem starts over again and I just put the cable into the "1st" port the cable was in and fine again?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is this the PS3, TV, HDMI cable? what is this?

Your hdmi port has been taken over by the ghost of Jimi Hendrix

If I had to guess, I'd say it's your TV. I had a similar issue with mine. First one input got all f--ked-up looking, then--over a series of weeks--another, then another...until it could only display properly from the composite inputs. It turned out the board in the TV was bad. Luckily it was under warranty, and a tech came out and swapped out the board pretty quickly.

Of course, HDMI cables are cheap and easy, so try that first.

I've once noticed things like this when I had something with a strong magnet in it, like a guitar amp, next to the TV. This was with an old school tube TV though.

Try unplugging the T.V. and PS3 from power for 5 minutes.

It looks like your TV is having some intermittent problem. Would the second port work consistently without this problem. Is it limited only to the 1st port. If you could try a new HDMI cable as well.

Do not to plug/unplug HDMI while all components (TV etc) are on. This could damage the HDMI port.

I had a similar problem with my 42" Vizio and my PS3. My problem was a green haze. I believe it is a problem with the TV because I got it replaced under warranty and the one they gave me did the same thing. But at least the one they gave me had a stuck pixel.

I get this every so often with the PS3. If I exit the DVD/BD and go back to it, the purple goes away.
I think this is a data error from the PS3 itself.
