Hi all!
I would like to repaint my Man Cave walls and need some feedback. I hate the fact that I have a green wall that blends in with my green couch. Seein the rest of the colors I have around the man cave, what color would you paint the wall? or walls. That green one is the main one. The one above is an cream beige color. I wouldnt mind painting that too. what would you do? Thanks. Turo you could see the rest here. https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...folderid=2408# ![]() ![]() . |

A dark brown maybe. I have almost the exact color couch and i recently painted my living room Chocolate Brown with Behr eggshell paint. It looks really good. Even my wife liked it, despite thinking it was gonna be too dark. It might work seeing as how your wood floors are a light brown and your other walls are beige. Dark brown also seems to mix well with black A/V components.

I'd have to agree, greens is difficult colour to compliment. Stick the the earth tones or neutral creams, depends whether you want it dark in the room or brighter.

Just an idea. I mean it comes down to what you like in the end, but it sounds like we're on the same page. I'm repainting my whole house on the inside and it's mostly earthy/fall colors. Dark brown living room. Carmel hallways and dining room. Probably gonna do a sunny yellow for my daughters room and kinda of a blood orange for my sons room. Haven't decided on our room yet. Maybe a merlot or something like that.

I just painted my sons room.We ended up using two different shades of blue and I must say it turned it out pretty good.
My suggestion is use Behr website for color selection you can really mix and match the different colors for your rooms... |

I agree with the brown..... but I wouldn't go very dark with it in that room. A lighter brown/taupe will go much better with your decor and keep that nice airy feel that room has. Too dark of a brown will close it in, and it's not like you need to go dark for a front projection system. I would go with a shade similar to that of my room, or maybe even a shade or two lighter. That's a nice couch... and it's just not going to pop against a brown much darker than that..... UNLESS.... you go VERY dark brown for the bottom half of the room, and a light brown for the top half.
Just a lady's opinion on decor.... and you know how we love doing that! |

The proper color for a home theater is a specific gray called Munsell Gray in a matte finish.
More information than you ever wanted to know can be found here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=741080 For the optimum viewing environment that will assure maximum color accuracy and contrast from your display or screen it is important that the room surfaces, in addition to being spectrally diffuse, must also be spectrally neutral; therefore a neutral color such as a dark(er) gray is required. This is very important WITHIN THE FIELD OF VIEW and even more important within the “SURROUND AREA” of the display or screen. For anyone whose priority it is to maximize color accuracy and contrast from their display experts recommend a matte gray paint, which range between Munsell N4 and N8 (from darker to lighter - N4 has L*a*b* values of 40, 0, 0 and N8 has L*a*b* values of 80, 0, 0; note: some prefer to use Kodak 18% gray as a neutral gray reference rather than the Munsell renotation,) for surfaces within the field of view. Around and centered on the display is the surround area, which is approximately equal to 8 times the active picture area of the display or screen (i.e., essentially the entire wall behind the display or screen for the average size room,) and is the most color critical surface and should be painted with a neutral matte gray paint closer to Munsell N4 or N5. Within the remainder of the field of view a lighter gray closer to Munsell N8 would be appropriate though an acceptable alternative is to use any Munsell Nearly Neutral pastel color preferably as close to neutral gray as possible. Outside of the field of view you have much more latitude though it is recommended that you still use a paint or surface treatment from the palette of Munsell Nearly Neutral pastel colors. The reason the color of your viewing environment is so important is that most people with normal vision experience a phenomenon known as chromatic adaptation. The viewing environment can wield an enormous influence on your ability to discriminate color accurately. Of course an “optimal” viewing environment must almost always be balanced with aesthetics pleasing to the homeowner thus reasonable compromises are to be expected. |

another idea, would be painting the top and bottom different shades of gray..... They would both still need to be fairly light shades though.... Perhaps a textured paint for the bottom part?
Is that a "Split Level" ? I know someone with a split-level house, and it's great having a "rec-room" that accessible, but it still feels separated from the rest of the house because you don't really see any of it until you go down the stairs...... He's not a big HT guy, but he has a 60" plasma, a 50" plasma, and a smaller (20-something) LCD with a bar, and two Foosball tables down there...... It's a great place to hang out! Your room looks like the same size as his I'd guess.... with a bathroom off of it, and a laundry area..... I really need to have my basement finished ![]() |

I like the dark brown option as well. I have had 3 colors in my basement over the last couple years.
An off white, which I got rid of almost immediately. I didn't like it because the room was bright even with the lights off. A dark red. I liked this alot but I changed it because I wanted the wall texture different and figured a color change would also be good. It's currently a drak brown called cinnamon. When we first painted we thought "uh oh" this is too dark, but once we got all the furniture back in and set up the gear it is by far the best option we have had in there so far. With the lights out it's really dark which is great for movies. Good luck on your choice. I think some of the gray variations could turn out great as well. With your walls the way they are I think a dark two tone combo would look awesome. |

Dude, I've been in love with your setup since the first time I saw it. I think it was either AVSfourms (the UK version) or Playstation Universe.
I only speak the truth, Young Jedi. ![]() I agree. It does look nice. However, with that being said, the one thing you may want to consider is a dark colored accent wall behind the TV. Maybe extend the color on the half wall onto the wall behind the TV. ![]() |

Sherwin-Williams has a color called "Nuthatch" that is a nice shade of brown. Its dark but not too dark. I painted one wall in my living room this color and both me and my wife wish we would've done the whole thing that color.
