I enjoyed it. It didn't have many extras but it was an improvement over the DVD.

It is better than the DVD; however the HD makes the special effects look really, REALLY dated. Other than that it was great.

Independence Day on Blu-ray is a clear and solid upgrade from the DVD. Picture quality is very good - I would rate 4.5/5 as well, but the lossless audio is even more impressive, in the form of a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 channel mix.

I think it has generally received high marks on every review site I've seen (at least a 4.0/5 for both PQ and SQ). This is what BigPictureBigSound.com said about in part: "...bits we might have missed before, like the little specks that represent fighter jets and spaceships in the long shots of the big air battles; even individual laser bolts are distinct. This movie played fabulously on the big screen, and home presentation is finally approaching that same overall impact. Sometimes I saw a little more film grain than I was expecting, sometimes less. Colors are extremely strong." And if you have [a] good subwoofer(s), it will definitely shake the house. Not as good PQ and SQ wise in comparison to "The Day After Tomorrow" IMHO but very good!

I couldn't disagree more. I found that the effects have held up exceptionally well over the last 13 years and the BD allows you to really enjoy all of the hard work that went into those effects.

The BD features reference quality picture and sound. I can't find fault with it.

I found it to be really good. It is a great step up from the DVD. The picture quality is great and the lossless audio I found to be awesome. If you want to get it I would go get it. Go now. Seriously.

As everyone else has said, I think it is really good on Blu-Ray. Overall, I would consider it a no-brainer purchase if you are a fan of the movie.

To add another voice; I think it looks and sounds excellent on Blu-ray. I don't think the effects look more dated or obvious than on DVD or VHS ... they've always been pretty obvious. It was an easy choice for me but I didn't have it on DVD either.

Pretty Awesome. Only trouble with it on BD is that it makes some scenes look fake.

I personally think it looks great I have owned the copy on VHS, DVD and now Blu Ray and it is by far the best.

Overall, I would consider it a no-brainer purchase if you are a fan of the movie.
