My question is to you 2001 fans out there.
The scenes I'm talking about are the exterior space ship shots & not the 5/6 min. acid trip at the ending. Before you start flaming me, I'm still able to enjoy 2001 for what it is, I thoroughly love it. But sometimes I can help but think to myself that the shots "need" to look more realistic. After all Kubricks goal was to make it realistic. I know many of you are going to shoot this idea down, kind of like the "Casablanca colorized" thread. I personally would be interested in it, after all nothing of Kubrick's ideas and goals with this movie would be compromised by a slight "facelift" in my opinion. |

Why would you ever destroy a masterpiece? I mean look at Lucas he has totally butchered the SW masterpieces! Just leave stuff alone! If you want to see new effects then make a new film...
I just dont understand where this stuff is coming from. Do new special effects make a film better? No... |

I'm talking about elevating the realism, I'm sure Kubrick would have wanted that if he had the resoures and the special effects at the time couldn't live up to it. It's still impressive though. |

For what purpose would you try and update some of the most stunning images in film. This is a slow-paced film, and the sequences and music fit quite well, although the score was not the first choice to begin with. Just call it, destiny.
The flyby of the Discovery is enough for me to say, that this is Demo material in my books. |

![]() ![]() OT I understand what you are trying to say, you are talking more in the way of what was done for the original Star Trek series. Leave everything there, just re-make the exterior space shots with newer tech. Personaly I would not see much of a problem with that. |

Wow, definitely not....there is absolutely no reason this movie needs to be enhanced or altered in any way aside from remastering (imo). I wouldn't be completely opposed to something ala the Star Trek TV show, where they offered the choice to view it with updated effects or original, but for 2001, I really don't think it's necessary. It was a movie made in 1968, not 2009, and its technological achievements are that much more amazing because of it

[sarcasm]I just watched One Million Years BC last night and that could use some work, I'm all for destroying history and methods of that time in favor of CG. Ray Harryhausen's methods are crude and ugly[/sarcasm]
2001 on blu-ray is fantastic, doesn't need anything added. It'd be a travesty if it did. Why even ask this question? |

Hasn't been done to T2 that I am aware of.
I am not interested in 2001 getting a revamp because the director has passed on but to me the Starwars movies with new special effects are better than the orginals. I just didn't like the extra scenes added to change the flow of the film. |

I agree that if it WAS done that there should be some sort of option to view with or without the effects. The movie is most definitely a masterpiece as is though. I don't think that it ever needs to be any more real than it already is. It sort of steps out of the bounds of realism towards the end anyway.

Right man...
I've made my special catchphrase just for you man ![]() Go!! Quote:
![]() That's exactly what I'm talking about with the Star Trek series comparison. Quote:
![]() Personally I don't think it's important when it was made, it's timeless and I think the movie should reflect that. If Kubrick had the resources, budget & technology, I think he would've definitely loved to make it as realistic as possible. Adding dimension to the space ships. So why not honor Kubricks goal?
