I am fairly new to home theaters. I have an Onkyo 606. Connected to it are a AT&T Uverse cable box and PS3 connected by HDMI and a Wii connected by composite cables. Most of the time it is used for watching tv, but some times when I turn on the PS3, when I switch to the game input that I have it plugged into there is a really loud "surge" (not sure what to call it, but it scares the hell out of the cats), the first time it happened I thought it was going to blow out my speakers. Sometimes that happens and sometimes when I switch nothing happens, the hdmi logo on the receiver just keeps on blinking and I have to turn the receiver on and off a couple times to get it to work. Does anyone have an idea of why this is happening? Has the "surges" messed up something with my receiver? HDMI cable problem? PS3 problem? I believe I have everything running from a power strip, maybe that is not giving everything enough power? I am not too familiar with amps, would that be something I need to look into, or maybe just splitting all the components between two electrical sockets instead of 1? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

That would scare me. I have an Integra product (same company as Onkyo) and I have never had anything like that happen.
This only happens with the PS3? Do you have the PS3 set on PCM output only not bitstream? Unless you have one of the new slims, you cannot send out the advanced codecs bistream. If that doesn't do the trick, I would see if you could "borrow" a friends PS3 and see if it does the same thing. |

sorry couldn't post this myself, would like to see if anyone can answer:
My equipment: I have two PS3 systems and the following three HDTVs 56" Samsung LED (1080p) - 240 hz 46" Philips LCD (1080p) - 120 hz 36" Magnavox (720p) - 60 hz The problem I am having is on my bluray movies on both my systems and the two 1080p tv's. (Everything is connected with high quality HDMI cables.) While watching most of my blu ray movies the screen will become very very bright for a moment, distorting the overall color on the screen then fade back to normal. and do this over and over every 3/4 minutes or during scenes with alot of light. This does not affect any games I have on the PS3 or any gaming/movies I watch on the 360. And for whatever reason this issue is not present on the 720p TV Anyone have anything I can try? |
