Default Cable Modem or psn issue.

I don't know if I'm posting in the right section but here it goes. I have Road Runner cable. I never had a problem with it until now. Whenever I'm on my PS3, there are times where it just signs me off. I'm like okay...maybe there's some online issues...but it's been going on for a week. At first, I thought it was the playstation network..but its actually my cable modem box. I look at the cable box and the "online" light is not even on. The thing is, this only happens when my playstation is on. When my laptop is on...it never happens. So i dont know if its either my cable box or the ps3 itself. Anyway, I just ordered a new cable box so hopefully that will solve the issue.

Couple things to try/check.

1. Find out what kind of NAT settings you're getting on the ps3.
2. If its an open connection then its probably the modem.

Is the PS3 straight into the modem or is there a router in between?

I had an old Netgear Router that would do this exact thing, and I never figured out what was wrong with it, so I just replaced it.

it's a linksys router....but i doubt it has anything to do with it. All connection is lost from the modem itself.

Could be, I had the most expensive SRX router and I couldn't even get online with a ps3 because of how locked down it was.

I'm 90% sure it isn't the ps3 . Try hardwiring it through the router and see what that does.

You would think so, but these things don't always make sense. Some combination of PS3 + Router + cable modem +PSN is causing the cable modem to fail. Of those 4, the router is (usually) the cheapest to replace. It's pretty clearly not just one of those 4 devices with the issue, so it has to be a combination somewhere.

Just pray the combo failing isn't Cable Modem + PSN, because you might be doomed there (depends on if there is a different variety of cable modem).

I have a quick question. I've got completely mental and can't hook up my dad's Ps3 online.
Using a wireless router Netgear WIRELESS-N 300 ROUTER I get to the section for Wep key and can't remember what I use.
Some people say the number is on the router itself?
I'm going over today to get it online so I'll look at the router and see, but there must be another way by using the computer. Unfortunately most of the youtube videos aren't that great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You need to log into your router. Usually the defualt password to login is admin and password unless you changed it. If you did I wouldn't begin to know what you changed it to, but all the info can be found once you log into your router, just copy and paste or type your ip into the http bar and it'll ask you to log on.
