Default PS3.. DTS HD or Dobly True HD

I dont have a PS3 slim. I got my PS3 3 YRS ago.... Since I'm sending my audio by PCM I wont get the DD True HD or DTS HD on the display (PIO SCO7). Got it! Here's another question... I see all of these doorbuster/cyber monday deals for blu ray players. If I got a cheap $100 Blu ray player would it be better for me?? Would it send the audio by something other than PCM??? Does the PS3 have an update that I can get that will send my audio by something other than PCM???

In another thread some one told me I was getting the same audio quality regardless if my Pio SC 07 Receiver says "DD True HD or DTS HD"

Your help is much appreciated!!

True. Unless you are unhappy with the performance or you don't game, don't bother getting a stand-alone. Keep the PS3 and enjoy it.

have you tried pressing the display button on the PS3 remote while watching a Bd to see what audio track you are listeing to? your recevier should be able to receive audio via HDMI. If you are decoding the audio on your PS3 and sending it as PCM to your receiver, you should see DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD when you press the display button on your PS3 remote (that is as long as you have selected the HD audio track).
Personally, I use the same method on my PS3 and Yamaha RX-V663 since my PS3 doesn't bitstream. I don't believe there is a difference but some people may.

The PS3 is still one of the better Blu-ray players around, especially if you are putting it up against a $100 standalone. I wouldn't replace it just so that your receiver can prove to you that it knows how to decode those formats. The PS3 is doing a perfectly good job decoding those formats to uncompressed PCM, and having the Pioneer do it instead won't provide any improvement in sound quality. The process involved is the same.
