Default Speaker position?

So the girlfriend and I have been contemplating on rearranging the furniture for a little while. Today after class we decided to tackle it and it's went decent. We have a very odd shaped living room and we decided to put the couch and TV in opposite corners. Obviously this is not an optimal position for the speakers. We have room behind the couch for the surrounds but not to the sides, so my question is...if the two Sony towers are behind the couch should I place them forward towards the couch or face them towards each other?

I haven't had time to experiment yet but with them facing the couch, I thought they sounded pretty good. I also don't have access to pictures at the moment or I would show you the area.

Thanks as always...

Place them facing forward towards the couch & have them separated apart as far as you can for surrounds .
These are my surround rear facing forward

Thanks, but just to clarify, you realize these aren't rear surrounds correct? I don't have room for them to the side, If I did I would be able to get back to my previous 7.1 setup

Just making sure you wouldn't change anything based on that being the only place for any surrounds right now.

I figured you did, just double checking

Damn bunch of females, if I had it my way...the couch would be right in the middle of the floor with plenty of room for a 7.1 setup

Move the couch forward A few inches everyday & you will eventually get the room . Or Get rid of the GF

Haha, I had actually been doing that before we switched the room and she never noticed. I may begin doing it again soon...

I don't know if this will be final or not but so far it's not too bad outside of the lack of space for surrounds. If I went back to my old satellites I could make it work, but I would rather keep the towers.
