Best release of The Deer Hunter?

Ive seen UK, Australian, French and Norwegian releses of this film. What are differences between the releases or are they all the same?

All the BD's of this are the same. I would also imagine that when this is released in the US it will be the same.

That is doubtful, because it is a Universal property in the U.S. The major Hollywood studios very rarely utilize extras or masters from European distributors. Universal's eventual BD will be very different most likely, though I am not saying if it will be better or worse.

Obviously, Universal won't want the "stretched PAL-speedup" DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack on the European releases. But then, why they haven't just reissued their HD DVD transfer on BD is beyond me.
