No, it`s a good question since it came out on HD-DVD in late 2006! Which means it`s allready mastered in High-Definition, so why the f*** is it taking so long for them to release in on Blu-ray? You`ve got to love that Movie, since it`s one of Walkens better performances ever.

It'll be hard to miss when the announcement is made. For now, patience.

Or just import the UK blu-ray (it'll play in a region A player).

If you want it now you could always import the Studio Canal version from the UK.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=117200

According to this thread it is region AB. However there are reports of audio issues.

Thx guys. Not really into imports, so I guess I'll continue to wait (im)patiently like everyone else on this side of the pond.

I have the Studio Canal version, and it's great.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...deerhunter.htm

http://uk.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Dee...-Blu-ray/5813/

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Deer-Hunter-.../dp/B002BC9Z06

Only costs $24.80 shipped, and shipping usually takes about a week.

There's no reason NOT to import this!

So rather than importing it, you decide to wait and complain it isn't out yet?

I hate it when people make it sound like importing is the only option and people are stupid if they don't Some people do not like to import ok damn deal with it. Others, like myself, do not even have that as an option as online shopping is a major pain in the ass not worth the hassle to save a few bucks, at least in my situation.

Now having said that, personally if it is on HD-DVD I'd rather just pick that up dirt cheap than wait forever for a Blu Ray because it is an ok movie but not worth the price they want even for catalog titles.

Universal has butchered other classic catalog movies on Blu-ray before, like Spartacus and Out Of Africa. There is no reason to expect any difference with The Deer Hunter. The import edition is likely going to be the best release of the film.

If you want to own the movie, right now importing is the only option. I don't get it when people, instead of simply importing the title keep complaining about how it isn't available yet when it is. I don't think getting it from amazon.co.uk is such a hassle, so I don't get what the big resistance against it is. It's the same deal with the Batman movies, which were available in single releases a long time in the UK, but everyone in the US kept complaining about how they weren't released as singles. Or the Wizard of Oz or Gone With the Wind BDs. Why wait when you can already own it?

I am surprised Universal isn't rushing to **** up this film on Blu Ray!

Any news?

Why did they have to show the entire wedding at the beginning? I've always thought that this film would have been much better if the wedding sequence was more condensed.

Cimino probably meant it as a warning of what he would later do on Heaven's Gate.

US version from Universal is scheduled for March 6, 2012.

Hopefully properly redone and without the Studio Canal problems with the DTS-MA track that has been announced.
