United Kingdom Audio problems w/The Deer Hunter, U.K.

Has anyone else that purchased the Studio Canal U.K. version of The Deer Hunter had problems with accessing the 2.0 audio option or the commentary track? I purchased the BR with the advance knowledge that the DTS 5.1 audio was improperly pitched, but bought it anyway because the 2.0 was, according to reviews, still pretty good. The picture quality looked great, but I was unable to get any sound at all out of the 2.0 or commentary tracks and returned the BR for a replacement, but had the same problems with the replacement.

Anyone else experience this?

Interesting. I don't have one of these to test the disc. But I have five different players with me at the moment PS3 (2), Oppo, Sony (2) and I can access the 2.0 track on each of them.


This looks like it is player related.

I guess that makes sense given your statement, but I've never had a single problem with any other audio track prior to this, and I tried changing every setting on the player that might have even the most remote chance of causing such an issue.

Well, I still have the disc, so I guess I'll have to wait until I get another player.

Let me ask -- what happens when you select the French 2.0 track? Could you try switching from the French track to the English 2.0?

I tried each and every one of the alternate language tracks and, as I recall, a few of them worked and a few didn't. When I get home from work today I'll see if switching from the French (or other tracks) directly to the English 2.0 has any effect. Thanks for the suggestion (I'd probably stand on my head while switching to the 2.0 track if anyone thought that might help) - I'll let you know if anything happens.

It's definitely a player issue. I had no problems with the 2.0 track on my Sony and the commentary worked fine

Mystery solved! It was a firmware update that was needed, one that I didn't even know was available. Deer Hunter working just fine now in 2.0...I appreciate the input.
