Default Question about - Philips 9000 LED Pro series

Hi,
I'm buying an LCD TV so I've been reading reviews on some sites. What I noticed was that Philips is almost nowhere to be find on them, and never in top picks. How come?

For instance, I would like to buy Philips 40PFL9704H/12 or 37PFL9604H/12.
It's expensive but I like the ambilight 3 and the 200Hz since I could probably watch 3D content when the time comes.

Any helpful information would be most welcomed.

Thanks

Thumbs down Philips

Historically, Philips has had an amazingly poor reliability record. The picture quality has also been rated as being less than wonderful on many occassions. Add to that the fact that customer service is non-existant. Acutally, Philips is only a name. The name is owned by Thompson SA, who also owns the names: RCA, Magnavox, GE, etc. The actual equipment is made by whatever Asian factory that Thompson has farmed out the manufacturing to ( eg. LOWEST BIDDER ). Thus the lack of reliability and customer service. Stay FAR away from these brands. You have absolutely no idea what you might be purchasing. This is why you haven't been able to find many reviews. No one wants to waste their time reviewing a piece of 5th rate junk , made with inferior components, that will barely outlast their warranty period.

Thanks for your reply .

Have you seen those models I mentioned?
It won EISA award for best European LCD TV 2009-2010.

It seams to me, more, that one site will favor models from different brands, but basically same origin - Samsung, LG.... That's more the case than anything else. Still, there are few sites left that are impartial. Today, you can't generalize on basis of a brand because each brand has models in their history when they wanted to fill a market segment. Like, for lower segment they do what you said, just order from lowest bidders and put their name on.

This particular Philips model got some really good reviews so I wouldn't want to judge it just because their past models were flawed.

I had nothing but stellar customer service with Philips back when I owned a 47PFL7432D/37 LCD, and the TV itself was of the highest order (comparitively). I'd put them right around the mid-tier level of LCDs, especially their latest lines. They're no Samsung or Sony of course, but they are better than your Westinghouses of the world. Around LG or Sharp's level.
