Default Hardest video game ever?

Plain and simple. What's the hardest game you've ever played? Did you beat it or was it just too damn hard and frustrating? For me, it would have to be when I wasn't the greatest at video games and was playing Rogue Squadron on the N64. I had to get a friend to help me beat it. It caused me to go on an 8-year gaming hiatus.

But I can't forget about World at War on Veteran. I was actually on my way to beating it and spent about 3 hours on 3 checkpoints, called it quits and saved game for later. Came back...everything was gone. I couldn't take it anymore and sold that junk. So what's yours?

LOL @ Rogue Squadron. Really? I beat that easily - I was the beast at the N64.

Nowadays, I'm no good at most modern video games, hell, I never even learned to play Halo properly.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was pretty tough for me. At first, I didn't know what to do, since I was very unfamiliar with the Metal Gear series. Plus, the game required patience and tactics, and sometimes it was very frustrating to pass through a crowd of enemies while being unnoticed. Nevertheless, I still beat the game, but it was a hard road.

The hardest game I've ever played was the TMNT game for NES. You can get about 4 or 5 levels in and then it's like hitting a brick wall

For a second I thought you meant the Turtles in Time for SNES - that one's impossible to beat by yourself.

Hardest game I've ever played is the original Battletoads. It's the only game I never finished due to difficulty.

Oh, did I forget to mention Resistance: Fall Of Man? There was rarely any health packs in certain times, and the enemies are very hard to kill. Plus, there are some limited ammo, so you have to conserve a lot as possible.

I was surprisingly good at that, although it took me a few attempts to get it going, but after that, I was pretty damn good at all difficulty levels.

I've honestly never had a problem with any of the Contra games. I never understood how hard people found it to be. I'm not saying I'm a video game deity, I'm just saying I guess I was a special case, haha.

Blaster Master for NES sure did piss me off a lot as a kid.

Think it was Tomb Raider 2 or something! Couldn't complete 2 levels and threw it away

The game wasn't hard even on hard, but that death crawl at the end with rapid tap was about the worst thing I've ever seen.

Modern:
Devil May Cry 3. Man, that game was brutal! I eventually beat it, but some stages took me 12+ times before I completed them. However, the game was still a blast to play despite the difficulty.

Retro:
Castlevania. Grim Reaper, nuff said.

Battletoads. Even with Game Genie I couldn't beat this game
