Default What was your hardest to find BD?

I have just about given up on retail on providing me with my Blu-ray movies.

The last couple of days I was on the lookout for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. For some reason I NEEDED this movie in my collection. Not tomorrow or next week but now. Nobody seemed to carry this disk except for Best Buy who wanted like $42. I called close to a dozen stores (BTW what heck is wrong with Target’s electronics dept?!? ) with no luck.

I just couldn’t justify spending the extra cash when Amazon has it for $18. I decided my time waiting was worth the savings.

The disk just came out earlier this year and nobody sells it. The only reason Best Buy has it is because no one wants to spend what they are asking. The ONLY BD that I found easily was 300 and that was on release day. All my other BD were a chore to locate.

Planet Earth. It surprised everyone how successful it was, and there were severe shortages when it was released.

In fact, Amazon couldn't fulfill the pre-orders for 3 weeks or so.

Casino Royale

At the time I was using netflix so I was not really interested in buying movies, but when Casino Royale came out, it was a must have. I went to every store within reason here in San Jose and could not find it. I eventually got it on netflix and had no reason to buy it yet I still would look every time I went to a store. Finally I picked it up at Fry's when it went on sale.

Since then I have not had any problems finding movies on release day. The bigger problem is paying the price. I generally only shop at Fry's or online for this reason! Only when it is a must have will I go to Fry's on release day before work.

Probably a remastered version of the Fifth Element. I just ended up buying on Amazon to make sure I got the right one. Plus the price always is better anyway.

If you have one close by, try your local Fry's. They seem to have the largest selections over Best Buy & Circuit City combined. Also, they are usually cheaper by $5.00 on most titles.

I also go to Frys.com and print out there weekly specials on BR and then head over to Best Buy (if I know they have it in stock) for a price match and to get my Reward Zone points.

I soooo lucked into my copy of the remastered Fifth Element. When I picked up my copy of 300 at Target I noticed that they had two copies of FE. I thought to myself “I’m sure they are both the old crappy version but it wont hurt to check while I’m here”…

Well to my honest surprise one copy was the new cut. You couldn’t have pried that copy out of my hands. I was so excited that I found it at my local Tarcrap. And what a gem it is the PQ is frikin amazing!

TMNT! And Apocalypto. I walked into Wal-mart and this guy I know was holing the last copy of TMNT in his hand on tuesday. Of course there were 4 copies of HD-DVD sitting there, lots of good that does me.

Other than 300, which took me 5 stops to find, probably the Shuttle Discovery HDNET BD. Not a real big seller I guess.

Same here. I went to 3 Targets, 2 Best Buys, 1 Fry's and 1 Circuit City and 2 Walmarts and could not locate the remastered version.

Ended up ordering through Amazon and took advantage of the free shipping which took a week and a half (I'll never again do that, I'm too impatient).

Today I just came back from Fry's to notice they had added a dozen or so copies of the remastered version with the old version on top of course.

It was the Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2.

I think it was because I looked for them the day before the release day, but I was lucky they have them both.

I had the same problem as the OP. None of the stores that sell BD's around here have ever had Hitchhiker's Guide on the shelf. For me it was one of those titles that I would like to have but didn't consider it to be a must have. Those are the kind of titles that I usually pick up in the B&M shops. I eventually tacked on Hitchhiker's Guide to another order that I was placing with Amazon. It is still the same case at the stores for some reason. Best Buy, Suncoast and Wal-Mart, none have ever had this title in stock for some reason.

Remastered Fifth Element. Too many places still had the old version, or pulled the old version, and had the new one on order. Lucked out with a Target that had one out of 5 that was the remastered version.

My local Wal-Mart had the remastered 5th Element (about 6 copies) for 18.96. They had it on the shelf about a week early too!

I went to Best Buy, Circuit City, Moviestop, and finally Wal Mart to find a copy of The Departed. I finally got it at Wal Mart, which surprised me, because it was when they carried maybe five or six Blu-rays, and weren't getting the new releases on the first day.
