Angry Host Process for Windows Has Stopped Working

I've had this 'bug' or 'error' quite often and its driving me a bit crazy. When I open certain media files (usually MP4 or MPEG), the video freezes, then I get this error;

So I close it, and the video plays, but I then get no audio, the audio control on the taskbar is working, but no audio... the light on my keyboard for sound is Red/Off too.

So I go into the control panel, and double click SOUND, and then get this message;

So I go ahead and re-enable the sound, and it works, but the Red light for the Sound stays on.

Occasionally I try and go into Event Viewer to try and find out what is causing this Host process error, but Event Viewer will not open unless I restart!

If anyone could shed some light onto this strange and very annoying error, please do. it also happened when I was just playing Solitare. Its something to do with sound.
