PS3 and no DD5.1 on hdd movies - Blu-ray Forum

Has someone come across the reason that movies (or movie clips) on the PS3 hard drive don't play in DD5.1. Same is the case with AVCHD movies copied to the hard drive. My AVCHD movies play in DD5.1 from my DVDs, but if I copy them to the Ps3 hard drive they don't use DD5.1

Does anyone know why or if Sony plans an update to address this?

The PS3 to date does not play any video files in either AAC/DD/DTS 5.1. No word if or when an update will allow this.

To me its weird that it can play them from the files on the DVD, but not from the hard drive, I just don't get why that is something different. Seems odd.

I thought the MGS4 E3 trailer had 5.1 audio?

Looking at the bit rate meter, the PS3 says that all audio on videos downloaded from the Store are in the AAC format. They're all stereo, though, afaik.
