Default got busted!

Okay heres my deal, i have always been into my surround sounds for as long as i can remember, as well as buying dvds. I recently went all out and decided i want a dedicated theater room, i had the space, ehy not use it for what i love! anyway after many hours of deciding the layout of my room and the equipment i wanted, i asked my father if he would give me a hand (luckily for me he is a carpenter and business is slow these days) the very next day he showed up my house at 6 am and said "lets do it", 3 1/2 weeks later and i know have a room i CAN NOT stay out of! enough beating around the bush...the problem was i had this awesome place to get away and watch movies, and NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS A BLURAY! of course i decided on a bluray player, and yeah i can play my dvd's on it, but i needed to see what all the fuss was about. it was right arount this time that i stumbled onto this forum, and i wrote a list down of what all of "you" said had the best picture and sound. i got in my truck drove to bb and picked up 5 of them, that was about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I KNOW HAVE 175 BLURAY TITLES TO CHOOSE FROM!!!!!! know to the part where i get "BUSTED", my wife got the mail today and my credit card bill had come in, like always she opens it up (i do not do bills or banking, dont even know how to write out a check) i have NEVER in my 16 years of knowing her seen her turn the color she did, i was nervous. The balance was at zero and it is now $$$2600!!!!! if it wasnt for the fact that i had back surgery last tuesday, i know things would be real bad for me right now and i wouldnt be typing. i didnt even realize it was adding up so fast at the time! i'll attach a picture of what i put together in a matter of 5 weeks. and NO, this is not a proud moment in my life. have Any other members gone out of control like this??? although i have plenty of new tit;e to keep myself busy for months to come, and im aware every ones budget is different, but what do most people limit themselves at per month? i think 4 will be good, one eevery week. right?

I've put a mini budget for myself at 4-6 per month and never pay more than $25 for a single blu-ray unless is is really a must have.

Oh but buying blus on painkillers can be a BLAST though! :martini :

Oh yea if the pain is bad, smash up the pain pills and wash them down with a few drinks. Then you can REALLY see the power of blu.......at least for 45 min before slumber sneaks up behind you.

You & your father did an awesome job on your theater room. As long as you aren't paying full retail price, I see no problem with a couple a month. You probably can get better prices online( Amazon.com-new or used ). Use the Price Tracker feature on this site, set your low price & wait. Also consider joining Netflix or Blockbuster. Hold off major purchases until Black Friday 2010( that's what I'm doing ).

I too like movies for escapism from the scummy real world. I’ve only been into this Bluray thingy now for 3 months and have (collected 27) titles so far. Even if I had 1000 its nothing even if I had 5000 its still nothing compared to the amount of films worldwide which is somewhere around over 6million for argument sakes.

But its slowly climbing at an average rate of 4 blu’s per fortnight. Most are around £15.00 some a bit higher very few might be around £10.00 but that’s what it is.

NO, NO, NO! NO pain killers here. Motrin and that is it, i have seen too many people get "hooked" on them, will not touch them. i pick movies based on review, and anything i think will look and/or sound good. what would be considered a "MUST" have? not just popular like say the dark knight, but just an all around awesome movie?

Just think about all the money she spends on hair products and makeup that will make you sick to your stomach.... Don't sweat it. Now you don't have to go to the movies....

I have to be honest. You obviously dont have any problem with money judging by you're home theater setup and you failed to mention if having to pay that bill was even an issue. So if $2000 is not really an issue for you than I suppose it's not that big of an issue, having said that... You need to chill the Fnnn out man. That is ridiculious, you will realize that half of the new releases you have been buying are not worth a second thought to you a couple years from now. Buy 2-3 a month tops if you're budget allow's for it and I think you're wife deserves a little more consideration and respect. You just cant catch her by surprise with a $2000 movie bill.

I kind of follow this guide line. Lately though they have gotten so cheap that I splurge a bit. I usually just make wish lists on Amazon for the things I want and wait for them to hit the price I want to pay. It's pretty hard for me to turn down a blu-ray I want that is 12-15 bucks.

The only problem I see is that they aren't in one of these:

I bought one a month or so ago. They are fantastic.

In regards to the OP. I pay all of my bills so I have never surprised myself with a 2500+ bill that I wasn't expecting. I did recently upgrade to a new receiver ($1300), new sides and back surround sound speakers ($200 (retail 400)), new 400 disc changer ($585). These were all some what quick purchases but I got them all paid off within about 2 months, I made the final payments today. Moral of the story is that you should probably plan your purchases better, but if you have the money to pay for it I don't think it really matters. If you were able to buy 175 blu rays without your wife noticing then I think it's her fault! hahaha =)

EDIT: I just got done looking at your HT pictures. Nice job. Looks great.

let's just say to avncars that he is living life like how you should, don't cheap out when you have a complete set-up like his...

It's like cake without the icing if he didn't purchase a box full of Blu-ray's..

plus avncars just had back surgery,It always could have being worse as life is unpredictable so Live it Up while you can.

some day his little son and him will watch all the blu-rays together in the future so who say's it isn't a good investment to spent $2000 on a blu-ray's.

I can usually add any new equipment to the rack before my wife sees it and after that she never even notices.
A couple of months ago I was sick in bed with the flu and heard the doorbell downstairs. I could here the door open followed by a huge thump. Then the stomping of my wife coming up the stairs. She comes into the room where I'm lying in bed pretending to be comatose.
I slowly open my eyes and see her standing there glaring at me. "What did you buy now?" she says.

Yup..my new Emotiva XPA-5 decided to show up on the worst day possible.

Oh well...it still kicks some serious butt.

I found, when I have been prescribed them, that chewing them up with coffee in the morning, and red-bull (or other caffeine drink of your choice) is far better than eating them with booze......

(And I've done my drug research in my day )

EDIT:

OP....

I bought about 30-32 Blu-rays the day I got my first player....... I did it all via Best-Buy, and Target and other local stores (wow that was dumb........ and then it was mostly Best-Buy because they were the only one with "decent" selection.... and I still never signed up for rewards points or whatever it is)

I wish I had patience, and purchased as sales came along to Amazon, because I've picked up so many titles for $12 or less, it's fantastic.......

That's alright because I've had higher credit card bills but not specifically to blu-rays. The wrath of your wife is temporary. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think any of these members have bought that many blu-rays in that time span.

I remember changing my day off from work so that I could be home for the delivery of my oppo player. My wife is usually gone in the morning so was surprised she was still home when the delivery guy came. She said what is it now and I told her it was a new bd player that I was on a waiting list for. I told her I was surprised it came because I was'nt expecting it for another couple of months . She gave me a funny look and then there was a knock at the door. It was the ups man delivering her new pocketbook. She looked at me and said " well today is full of surprises huh". LOL
