Default Big Lebowski?

Any word on this one? I see its on amazon, but there's no date, you can only sign up to be notified about any updates.

I saw this movie for the first time a few months ago and actually didnt love it, but I saw it again last weekend and liked it a lot more. Now im all stoked for the BD.

A two-sided disc blu on one side dvd on the other. Universal just started doing this with their catalog titles. The first ones were the individual releases of the Bourne films that came out a couple weeks ago.

Oh okay, well what's wrong with that?

I'm not making a fuss...I just think they're dumb. Especially when it comes to catalog titles...chances are anyone that wants the film on blu already has it on dvd. Other people are freaking out because of all the playback issues there were with the HD-DVD combo discs that Warner was putting out a couple years ago.

I don't really care one way or another either....... but some people are pretty vocal about their disdain for the "flippers" Some people are anti-DVD just for the sake of it..... others would rather have the disc art, than the DVD functionality, and other people feel it will only cause consumer confusion (which it 'may' ) but I think it helps those who aren't ready to replace their DVD player with a Blu-ray player a good reason to, when they realize they have 20 Blu-rays already sitting on their shelf

Either way, the Dude abides.....

Me too. This is one of those titles that needs to get released already. (They've already released the Coens' "Fargo" on BD, seems like this would be the next logical title on the list...)

This is one of those movies I wouldn't care if it were on Blu-ray or not, it's just as good on DVD to me

Though I do not own it, if it were to be released on Blu-ray I would get it though.

Per our very own blu-ray.com website, there's a placeholder for a UK Universal Blu-ray release of the Big Lebowski on September 19, 2011. Though the placeholder says Region B, historically, Universal does region free. Here's hoping we'll be getting a release in the United States as well!

There's a little more info on the sources here too: https://forum.blu-ray.com/united-kin...ki-1998-a.html

Can't wait for this one! I actually think this could be really good on BD. Some of the bowling scenes have a really dynamic colour pallet.

Flipper Disc: A double-sided disc that requires you to get up during the movie and flip it over to continue watching the rest of the movie (or to watch special content features on the reverse side).

Combo Disc: A double-sided disc with the Blu-ray version on one side and the DVD version on the other side.

Does that diminish the quality of the blu-ray at all? I've read about how early blu-rays aren't as good (see the first version of Memento vs. the new release, out today). Supposedly, early BR's don't have the same capacity to put a high quality image on a disk that they do today or something... so does the flipper/combo disk diminish anything relating to quality?

Not really. One side is a dual layered Blu-ray, and the other is a dual layered DVD. Of course, there are a few people who might have had some bad experiences with flipper discs, and proceeded to raise hell about them even before they had tried any of Universal's discs, but I haven't read about faulty discs anywhere.
