I had the 970, no HDMI, which is worthless nowadays. The 2ch side of things, the 970 plays very well. If you're thinking about using this for HT, it's not worth it. They are trying to get rid of these before their new processors come out. NOT WORTH IT, IMO. The amp might be worth the $$$ though.

was going to use both for only 2 channel music in my dining room. the preamp would be good for FM/cd/zune hook up and the amp to power some 4 or 6 ohm speakers. this will NOT be for HT. already have my setup in my sig. this is just for music??

Go for it then, that's a great price. I was reading about the amp, it seems like a steal for 475.00 by itself. If everything is in good shape, pull the trigger!

Forum member Animo has the 970 and he loves everything about the sound from his. Friendly guy too, shoot him a PM about that unit (assuming they are similar).

the amp alone seems to be worth the asking price. If you decide to pass on it, let me know, I would buy it.

Don't know much at all about the amp but I have had the 950 for five years and it is one amazing pre/pro. Not one ounce of trouble and the multi-channel analog outs sound great hooked to my OPPO BDP-83. The one really nice thing about the 950 is that it has bass management. Will feel a tinge of regret since I am thinking about finally upgrading (looking at the Integra DHC-80.1) but my sister already has dibbs on the 950 for her basement. As long as it looks like its in fine shape and works I wouldn't hesitate to get it

Thanks Drew,

It's true, I love my 970 mated to my XPA-2 & XPA-5. I never would have believed I could get such amazing sound from a shoestring budget. I couldn't be happier right now, especially after reading about Onkyo and Emotiva having bugs in their newest processors. Hoping I continue to have great success with this combo until something truly amazing comes down the pike.....maybe a used Statement D2 for dirt cheap???? A guy can hope ...yes??

That is what amazed me about my 970. Some of the cleanest sound I have heard from any processor at a comparable price, and even higher.
