Default Upscaling chip: which one?

Hi everybody,

I own a Blu-Ray player Samsung BPD-4600 connected via HDMI to a 720p TV (a 32" Toshiba REGZA 32C3000P).

Is my understanding that when watching DVDs, the video is upscaled from 480p to 720p, even though I am not sure by who!!

Is the job done by the player or by the TV... how can I check? In case both devices could do the job, who should I let do it?

I'm sure both do it automatically so it's probably done first in the BD player. Your tv would do it if there wasn't a BD in the mix.

I know last year some of the Samsung players used the HQV Reon-VX processor. This year they use a proprietary system--to save some money I guess. This is what is upconverting your DVD's.
