I replaced my PC with a new one. My old one was windows 7 64bit. When I told the machine to turn off the monitor after 1 minute, it did. The power button turned amber and the screen went black.
With my new machine, same OS and same power settings, the screen goes blank and the power button stays green. The power button does not go amber and the screen does not go full off (black). Any ides? Only thing I can think of is the video card. ATI Radeon 5870 1 Gig. I am using dual link DVI cable. Did the same thing with standard DVI cable. |

It sounds like it is turning off video but still sending a signal to the monitor. Personally, I've never experienced this. Every monitor/video card combo I've used would always turn the monitor to its sleep mode.
Def. sounds like a video cards issue. |

Good point. Something similar happened to me once a while back when I upgraded a video card in an old PC I used to have. You have the basic, generic monitor settings for the computer, and then you have a completely different set of settings for the NVIDIA card that have to be set up as well.

Just a quick update..
I called ATI 2 days ago to get some help with the issue. They offered a couple things to try but nothing worked. The guy on the phone stated new drivers were coming out in a couple of days, 10.2. Last night I looked and the drivers were out. So I uninstalled the old 10.1 drivers, installed the new ones and tested out the sleep function. What do you know - the monitor is turning off like it should. So, it was a driver issue. ![]() |
