Question Star Trek Enterprise (March 26, 2013)

So I know it was shot in HD and aired on TV in HD. But when is paramount going to give us a blu-ray version?

No news as of yet on any of the other Star Trek series. Enterprise was shot on HD so may be easier and cheaper to put to BD. TNG/DS9/VOY would be much harder/more expensive due to being shot on film then edited on video, but on the other hand the demand for them is probably higher. For TNG especially. I just can't see Enterprise selling that much...

Easy but won't sell that much vs very expensive but would sell better, who knows what Paramount are thinking...

I for one am willing to consider the DVDs of DS9 (my fave ST series) pretty much definitive, and I can't see a BD release for that any time soon, if ever.

Considering how much money Paramount made off of DS9, Nexgen, and Voyager on DVD and VHS, I would find it hard to believe they wouldn't produce them on Blu. I'm not saying they will do a good job, but they will most likely do it. Especially considering how all season of the Original Series are now out.
As for Enterprise, who knows? Definitely the worst of the Series, and least popular but it could happen. As with any of their releases we could be waiting years....

Who knows if they even have the film masters, though? Otherwise it'd be little more than a shoddy upconvert, and even if they did have the film masters they'd have to re-create loads of footage (or upconvert that). It would take SOO long. TOS was all on film, and there were less episodes and less complicated effects.

I personally believe Enterprise will be the next series released on Blu-ray. I have no doubt that all of the series will be released on Blu-ray, it's simply too big a franchise to leave just on DVD. They've pretty much milked about all they can from DVD for the series and films. Short of offering Blu-ray there's not much else they could do. Enterprise would be the easiest do to having be shot, edited etc for a high def presentation. The other series do require work as has been discussed before. A lot of people seem to be of the idea that the old effects are unusable for TNG, DS9 and VOY. I understand that DS9's last few seasons and most of VOY had digital effects that were finalised and output in a SD format, so yes, they would need re-doing. My understanding of TNG is that most of the earlier effects were all filmed as per usual and composited before being edited at SD res. If that's the case then for those seasons they have the option of completely re-doing the effects or re-compositing the film elements for the effects from scratch. That would allow for the original effects at a HD res, but may be cost prohibitive because if you're going digital for later seasons then let's face it, it's probably easier to re-do everything the same way.

I would like to see all the effects re-done, but would prefer another FX house to do them like Eden FX who were responsible for Enterprise. CBS Digital created some good work for TOS, but 90% of effects in the other shows were good (barring the HD problem) so re-doing them on the cheap would look exactly that, and the worst thing they could wish for is people saying the new effects look worse than the old ones.

Me too, I find ENT terribly underrated and like it (a lot) better than VOY and about equal to TNG. Considering the excellent production quality ENT should look amazing on blu.

I second that. I own all seasons downloaded from torrent. SyFy airs it sometimes, it was on today in fact, however they are not in HD and left only filling half the screen (windowed) but still in letterbox. I use the Zoom mode on my HDTV, but then it doesn't look so good. I don't see why it would be so hard for SyFy to zoom when they broadcast, many other networks do it. I really wish they would put this out on Blu Ray, I'd be there day one buying them. I would MUCH rather have Enterprise than Deep Space 9 on Blu Ray. I personally loved Enterprise and never saw any fault with it.

T'pol is and always will be up there with Princess Leia for best Sci-Fi Female. Far better than 7 of 9 imo.

Absolute nonsense! The best sci-fi female is clearly Xev from Lexx played by Xenia Seeburg.

On a side note, anyone else think Jolene Blaylock looks hotter as a vulcan female than in real life?

I do and I think she looked her best in season 3 due to the new uniform and haircut.

"Tons of Trekkies" didn't buy it on DVD. Even if they sold a new copy to every single one of those people

Seriously, the most common thing you always hear is "everyone I know will buy it". There was one TV series that was championed by the daughter of an executive at one of the studios. They spent a pile of money on extras, gave it a big splash

Turned out "all my friends" counted in pretty low, and it lost quite a bit of money despite the measurable cult following of the show. So even though doing Enterprise would be the cheapest of all the Trek shows to put on Blu, it's also unlikely given the DVD performance on the show to be worth their time right now

Financially, it's TNG and VOY that are most likely to be worth their time. Voyager was the first Trek shown first run in prime time in Europe, so it has a lot better following than the other shows there. While Enterprise will almost certainly eventually come out, I wouldn't count on it till closer to JJTrek 2, and wouldn't be suprised at 3

I think it would be very smart for them to start with Enterprise on Blu.

Trek and Blu-ray fans are two groups with some definite interconnections, and right now Trek fans are very hungry for any Trek content on Blu.

If they wait until the market is saturated with releases, and then release Enterprise, it likely wouldn't sell as well if they put it out sooner before there is so much glut of Trek available. Would make a lot of sense, and it would be far cheaper to put Enterprise on Blu than any of the remaining shows as well.

With the exception of the last episode, which was an insult to the cast, Enterprise was a great addition to the franchise. I would love this on Blu.

I used to watch Lexx myself. Farscape, Babylon 5, etc. However, I'd take T'Pol over all else. She just "does" it for me. Jolene Blaylock as herself as well. Though I have to admit it would be a hard choice if Chiana was there....

I just wish Enterprise would come to Blu Ray in the end. It was my favorite of all Star Trek series surprisingly.

Did you know that the creators of the show originally wanted T'Pol to be the T'Pau character from the original series episode "Amok Time"? They didn't go through with it, because it would mean they would have to pay the creator of the original character for every episode she appeared in.

Three years later they had T'Pau appear in two episodes of the Vulcan Arc of season four, played by Kara Zediker.
