I know we have Photo thread, but this is something ANYONE who buys wildlife books, calendars or even movies should be aware of.

i can't stand, what i consider, (fake) photography. meaning photoshopped, color boosted, enhanced, pictures. i just started using digital a couple years ago and i won't use photoshop. i use iphoto. if i couldn't do it in a darkroom i don't want to do it. i think that's along the same lines as these staged wildlife photos. i won't even take my camera to the zoo. what's the point of having a wildlife picture if the animal isn't wild?

For the point of having a ZOO picture!

I love using Photoshop, but don't normally make "fake" pictures. I use it to remove small distractions like strings or spot marks on skin or something.

If I make a "fake" image it's either very obvious that it is, or I will make note of it.

honestly it doesn't bother me either way. I enjoy the pictures of the animal regardless

...unless of course you can see photoshopping in the picture, but that can be in any genre, it annoys the fire out of me when a photographer leaves a picture unfinished or overdoes it.

Yeah that is how I feel about the topic. I like nice pictures of animals, and I really couldn't care less if they are staged or authentically taken in the wild. If the picture looks good, then I'm happy.

After going on safari in both South Africa and Botswana, I have no desire to visit zoos anymore. It is more fun photographing wildlife in the wild; can’t wait until my trip early next year to Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania! Still debating whether I should continue using my Nikon P600 or upgrade to the newly released Nikon P1000.
