film is shot at 24 frames per second(fps) ....blu-rays can play back as 1080/24p that means with 1920x1080 lines of progressive resolution and at the natural film rate of 24 frames per second.
Television and DVDs are done using a 30 fps rate, Most TVs accept this as the standard, and you will see that many are 1080/30p native resolution, and in order to display 24 fps, these TVs use 3:2 pulldown to properly display 24 fps without and/or with minimal judder. Sony TVs have 24p fps as a native resolution, some higher end Panasonics do too. Then other LCDs and Plasmas use 120 hz, 240 hz, and 96 hz processing in order to display the 24 fps and not have to use 3:2 pulldown. |
