Default Klipsch vs Bose

I argued all day with this guy at work about the quality of Klipsch vs Bose, and he didn't want to hear jack i was saying. I was just trying to give the man some advice on speakers and HT stuff but he swore up and down that i didn't know nothing a was talking about. I just called him a Statistic, Hes the type of guy that would listen to anything a best buy agent would say to him lol. Bose is nice but for the price and quality Klipsch is far more superior.

They both make various models..........nothing like a good ol' fashioned blanket statement.....

Perhaps he didn't want to be convinced that he shouldn't like the things he likes.

The Bose 901 is actually a very good speaker, as are the offerings from Klipsch in their Heritage line (Heresy, Cornwall, La Scala & Klipschorn).

So how do I vote?

I had others, but can't seem to find them right now.

First, to call Bose nice is debatable. Bose has made a couple of decent speakers throughout the years...but even these have been waaaay overpriced. Most of the speakers they make are worthless.

So I would go with Klipsch even thought I'm not a big fan of the horn tweeters. They have always been a bit harsh for my ears.

If you want to win an argument over quality of Bose vs quality of "whatever brand" then ask them for the frequency specs from Bose. Then ask why they are the only major speaker maker that doesn't publish the frequency specs. They say "No highs, no lows...must be Bose" for a reason. Most of their speaker systems are really lacking up high and down low. One thing you can't knock Bose for is their ability to sell their speakers to the average listening public as the end all, be all of the audio world. They may not make the best speakers for the price (or even the best speakers period) but they know how to convince people otherwise.

But, as always with speakers...it comes down to what sounds best to the end listener...and if they think their quality is worth the money spent.

I'm not a big fan of Klipsch, but it's an easy decision when you put them next to Bose.

We've had a very long thread about it already, stickied here -

IMO you can't even lump these two into the same category. Granted, some people don't like the sound of horn tweeters and that's fine, but at least Klipsch offers speaker setups that cover the full frequency spectrum with no big holes which is something Bose can't do. However, Bose has a marketing department that has managed to convince the masses at large that their sub-entry level stuff is high end. If their design/engineering department were as talented as their marketing department then they probably really would be world class.

I wouldn't really blame the marketing more about the people who let themselves get taken advantage of. Noone makes people do anything and if you make a big purchase like that without research then you deserve to be ripped.

OH YEAH!!!! Tell your buddy ill sell him six Bose speakers real cheap. 4 301's and 2 book shelfs they have been sitting in my garage for like 3 years now. I replaced an old Bose setup with a full def tech 7.2 setup a while back. the 301's highs are better than the Bose 901's I didn't like the 901's at all and my receiver back then pushed with 175 watts x 4 channels much stronger than what I have now just not 7.2 back then. I would have to go with Klipsch. I'm just not a big fan of the horns on some of them. And the Bose ready made systems as soon as you turn em up they start to strain.

If the Bose speakers are the 901 speakers, I will definitely prefer them to Klipsch.

The absolute lowest end Klipsch products are better quality than the highest end (if there is such a thing) Bose products.

I disagree with that, the 901's are performers for sure, they best many Klipsch products. I'm a Klipsch customer for life, so no bias here.

I am only referring to Klipsch speakers not designed by the late Paul Klipsch and are available at big merchandisers.

Just checking, my brother used to have 901's they were great speakers, but the Heritage line is top notch in my book. I've been toying with the idea of 7 Heresy's in my room, but the boss isn't as supportative.

I understand where Big Daddy is coming from. He has a point too. However, I think the OP is comparing the current market of Klipsch and Bose speaker products that you'd find side by side on display in mass market outlets at Best Buy, Fry's, Ultimate Electronics, etc.

Framed in that context, yes I agree with the OP's assessment. I voted for Klipsch, although I am not a Klipsch fan. Quite the opposite, I'm an Energy speaker fan.

The 901 speakers were revolutionary speakers and ahead of their time. They have to be setup perfectly before they sound up to their potential. In most average homes, they do not sound that great.
  1. They require a very large room.
  2. They need to be placed away from the front wall as most of their drivers are on the back of the speakers.
  3. They have to be on their stands.
  4. You have to use their dedicated equalizer.
  5. You need an amplifier with mucho power. Receivers may not apply .

About 25 years ago, I was in a bar/disco/restaurant in Birmingham, England in late afternoon They had 18 Bose 901 speakers hanging from the ceiling. Around 4:00 pm, they started the music at low volume. As it got darker, they raised the volume. By the time it became totally dark, the volume was at concert level. It was one of the most enjoyable and satisfying experiences that I ever had in my life and that comes from someone who has seen Pink Floyd, Who, and Berlin Symphony (conducted by the late Herbert Von Karajan) in live concert.
