Default PS2 - Would a Component Cable Add Improvement?

My regular Yellow, White, and Red cable for my PS2 is pretty much falling apart. I have a 720p/1080i set up. My HDTV doesn't have an HDMI on it, so it's a component set up, would a component show improvement in PQ on my set up? Or would it still be 480p/i?
