I think this thread, in essence, implies an argument.

We can all say our own speaker brands are the best, but as we've reiterated time and time again, everyone's ears are different. If you love your Klipsch horns, then - I mean, who are we to tell you otherwise? DefTech bipolar towers might sound better to me, but not to you. Paradigm Signature series would downright blow any Klipsch RF-series away.

If you're shopping for more on the high end, I'd suggest Revel, Monitor Audio, ::hesitates to add his own speaker brand in there:: - and so on.

What price range are we looking at here? I see you have bookshelf/satellites currently...something of a similar size?

There is no such thing as a best speaker brand. And yes, this thread will run amok with suggestions based on ownership only and not necessarily from actual comparisons. Even then, those comparisons are subjective anyway and may not meet your desires.

Set yourself a budget for the speakers and how many you want. Then go and audition as many brands as you can without bias. It took me well over a year to decide on mine.

Whatever you conclude and decide on buying will be those speakers that appeal to you...and no one can argue with that.

Good luck. I'll follow this as I LOVE speaker threads.

Thats just the thing, if i go to best buy right now they will have some bose, klipsch and polk, but they are all in different categories, i need good comparisons, and i just dont have a local spot to do that.

Are the choices limited to those in the poll? There are tons of speaker manufacturers out there that are going to be "better" (subjectively) than those you listed. Everything listed seems to be what can easily be found at any chain store. If you are looking for something more high end, might I suggest you visit some Hi-Fi shops and check out what they have to offer.

Might I also add that picking a speaker by a particular brand my be more difficult that it seems. Within a brand there are several lines and models. There are some speakers made by particular brands that I would consider owning and others, I personally wouldn't ever want to see in my living room. Just a thought. But for all intensive purposes, I do understand that you are using the poll to get a general idea of what to go look at.

Seeing as you don't have the luxury of auditioning various brands, I would suggest the following.

1. How many speakers are you looking at?
2. How important is HT versus Music?
3. What is your budget?
4. Towers and/or bookshelf/monitors?

Giving us an indication of the above may help in steering you forward on the right path.

I agree this could get a little arguementative. Maybe the way to go about it is just to list the speaker you have, why you purchased them, and if you could purchase any other speaker within reason, what would you go to.

I have/am building my Paradigm Reference Studio line. I bought them because of loyalty to Paradigm (owned them in the past and loved them). Listened to the and loved the way they sound - just bright enough the Metal and Rock music sound great, but now so over bright that audio fatigue and harshness creeps in.

If you could upgrade, the obvious step up would be Paradigm Signature, but if I go outside the at brand, it would be to B&W800 series.

As far as affordable brands go i think Paradigm has the best line up from their entry to level to high-end. I really don't think any other speaker manufacture can come close to the sound quality for the price Paradigm offers, even with there flagship signature series they are reasonably priced.

Well, if I had to choose from the list above.. I would choose Paradigm Studio series.

However, I think B&W, ATC are both amazing speakers for their price points and I would throw the nod to them.

Everything else on the above voting list I won't say anything about because my momma always said, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I own Energys and I have heard Paradigms, Def Tech, klipsch, Polk and many other speakers as well.

Polks are nice, but they don't do anything for me personally, their RTi and TSi are just not my taste.

Def Tech are nice, if you want bi-pole speakers they are great and have a very good way of filling a room with sound.

Klipsch are loud, not my style whats so ever, however I respect those that like them for themselves. To me the Horns just project the highs of the tweeters in a way that I am not into.

Energy and Paradigm make somewhat similar speakers, I think in a popularity contest Paradigm will have the bigger name and you will have more people VOTE for them. HOWEVER, having heard each of them, both are great with music and HT, along with PSB, all three speakers companies had utilized the NRC in Canada for acoustic and hearing research. Paradigm and PSB are a little more forward sounding IMO, and the Energys are a little more laidback. However the Energy Connosiuers are similar to the Paradigm Monitors and PSB Image, the Energy RC are similar to the Paradigm Studios and the PSB Imagine.

Then you have say the British Monitors.... those would be the B&W, Monitor Audios, KEF, they are nice speakers too, B&W and MA are similar in sound and dynamics, they can be a touch bright, but not like Klipsch in anyway. Kef speakers are something of their own, but can be nice also.

There is also the Danish speakers like Dali, Dynaudio and Jamo. I think that Dali and Dynaudio are probably the best of the best in my opinion. Jamos are nice too, but I think they are about in the line of the Energy Connosiuers, PSB Image, Paradigm Monitors.

Deeman, You really need to go listen to a lot of speakers and find what you prefer the most.

I am sure that if you go onto some of the websites of some of the companies your interested in you will find that there are dealers that you don't know about within 1 hr of where you live.

I know that I like Linear speakers that have a warm and laidback approach to their sound, accurate highs, deep open and detailed mid-range, and last, important but not critical for me is the low-end, I like a good low end, but I don't need a sub sound from my towers, but if the lower mid-range and upper low-end are accurate and tight, I am happy.

Dali, Energy, Dynaudio are some of what i find to be favorites for my taste, then I like Paradigm, PSB, MAs, B&W next on my list. After that speakers like Klipsch and Polk are at the bottom of my list of speakers that would personally buy. So you can see that everyone has to develop their own tastes.

Good luck, on your list, Energy and Paradigm would be my 1-2.... in that order.

Go listen to speakers yourself. Let your own ears decide. You may find yourself let down by taking one persons opinion and running with it.

Callas, as always, has great advice. The one thing I'd like to point out (and perhaps this is because I own them), but the Jamo C series, which is getting difficult to find are great speakers. They might not be up to the B&W 800 series level, but you're paying a lot more for those as well.

What's your zip code? I'm sure there are a few dealers somewhat close to you so that you could hear a few new/different brands.

Justin
