Default India to Create Tear Gas Grenades from Ghost Chilis

Source:Yahoo!

GAUHATI, India – The Indian military has a new weapon against terrorism: the world's hottest chili.

After conducting tests, the military has decided to use the thumb-sized "bhut jolokia," or "ghost chili," to make tear gas-like hand grenades to immobilize suspects, defense officials said Tuesday.

The bhut jolokia was accepted by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the world's spiciest chili. It is grown and eaten in India's northeast for its taste, as a cure for stomach troubles and a way to fight the crippling summer heat.
It has more than 1,000,000 Scoville units, the scientific measurement of a chili's spiciness. Classic Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units, while jalapeno peppers measure anywhere from 2,500 to 8,000.
"The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization," Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

"This is definitely going to be an effective nontoxic weapon because its pungent smell can choke terrorists and force them out of their hide-outs," R. B. Srivastava, the director of the Life Sciences Department at the New Delhi headquarters of the DRDO said.

Srivastava, who led a defense research laboratory in Assam, said trials are also on to produce bhut jolokia-based aerosol sprays to be used by women against attackers and for the police to control and disperse mobs.

That would be awful. But what a great idea!
I imagine people will readily comply when they can not breath and their body is burning!

No kidding!

Imagine how inexpensive they could be to produce too. Maybe we could learn something from them...

Well... my mom grows these tiny purple peppers... And you know how after a while pots arent as shiny as they used to be? Well, if you crush these peppers up and boil them, the pots come out beautiful.

Is it the hot oil from the peppers that make them shine?

I think it is the oil and acidity that makes them shine up like they were new. We had tried scrubbing and they were just never as shiny as before.
Stainless steel pots and pans btw. We even tried steel wool, and that didnt get it all.
Any time we are making pepper jelly we always end up with beautiful pots

That's cool. I know that if you apply ketchup and wipe it off with a cloth to copper pots, the acidity helps restore & clean the copper.

That's really cool. I doubt they'd grow up here in the New England climate, though.

Now knowing what peppers like these are capable of, imagine what something like the ghost chili could do to your insides.

I've tried Dave's Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce, and Wow!!! Funny thing about it is after that first taste the garlic and other flavors hit you and you think this isn't going to be that bad... Then, th_thrunforhills.gif

Seriously, if you don't routinely try the hotter hot sauces don't even attempt trying this. This is almost too hot to even try, and all I had was a drop on a cracker.

I could only imagine what this pepper in a vapor or mist would do in a closed environment like a building or cave.

Never in a million years would I try that, although I do enjoy some spicy foods. To me, anything much hotter than a hot jalapeno is just not enjoyable, though.

I eat a serrano pepper every time my wife and I visit our favorite Mexican restaurant.

I've had a habanero pepper before. That was no joke. I first had a slice/ring of the pepper.. and found it to be like a weak jalapeņo. I then had a bigger slice with a whole bunch of seeds on it - *chew chew chew* hmm.. this is going to be really ba- OMG!! *GAG*!!

After I was able to swallow it, I kicked my sandals off and looked for something to help me out. Popsicle worked for only 1 second, then right back to full-force burn. Seemed to last about 30 minutes.

Hot peppers tend to operate in three stages.. mouth, stomach, and then.. exit. When it made its' way to my stomach, it was just as bad as the first stage. FIRE!! OH THE PAIN!! You know the rest.

I'll never try a Ghost Chili.

Use the sugar packs on the table if they're available. Pour the pack on your tongue and let it desolve. The sugar crystals absorb the pepper oil.
