Default 3D Blu ray disks is 50 gigs going to be enough.

The maximum space for a Blu Ray is 50 gigs will that be enough with the need for essentially two 1080p pictures simultaneously. Video encodes are now around 28 to 30 Mbps so it would make sense that for two 1080p pictures simultaneously the bit rate would be some where in the neighbor hood of 58 -60 Mbps or do I have my facts gibbled.

Yes, it will be enough. The new 3D codec only requires on average 1.5 times the space of the 2D version. That's because the alternate perspecive view only needs to record the difference from the original.

[EDIT: Why are we mixing storage space with transfer speed? Either you're confused, or I am, or both.]

The theoretical max storage capacity for a Blu-ray disc as I understand it is 250GB. If 50GB (two layers of 25GB) isn't enough, my best guess is that they will either:

a) downsample where necessary, or
b) start adding layers where necessary

My guess is it will be the latter rather than the former, since technology is moving that way (i.e. forward). That is just a guess, though, and I am definitely no expert on the subject.

There was talk of compatible 66GB discs being produced in the near future, but I don't know wat the satus on them is.
