Hero by a long shot. It's the deeper story of the two.

Disagree completely. They both have a lot to do them, but Crouching Tiger is BY FAR deeper thematically. Hero def has strong themes, but they're not as broad in scope as Crouching Tiger. Thematically aside, Crouching Tiger is just a better film in practically every category. I love both films, so don't get me wrong here.

I love both films too. But the ending of Hero just kind of blew my mind. The decisions and actions of all the characters involved just wrapped together better for me than they did in Crouching.

Though Crouching will always be in my heart as my intro to Zhang Ziyi

I get ya---the ending of Hero really was incredible. Hard to argue with choosing either film since both are so good.
