Lightbulb A "priceless" commercial for blu-ray

HD-DVD player $350
Blu-ray player $500
High Defintion TV - $2000
Paying Paramount to go exclusively HD-DVD, 150 million dollars.
Knowing that in 18 months blu-ray is going to win the format war anyways - PRICELESS!

I hope you're right.

The format war really should have been done with after this forthcoming holiday season, though.

Was hoping for Warren Buffet. But yeah, nothing is quite like the gentle crispness of the original "priceless" voice.

He's my boss.. I'll have to see if he can chip in to give Warner and co the same incentives Paramount got. The next time I pop round his house I'll have a look down the back of his sofa and see if there's any pocket change lying around..

You know whats angered me most about Paramount going exclusive.. if they'd actually gone Blu-ray exclusive instead of HD DVD that'd have pretty much ended ANY hope of HD DVD getting any sort of mainstream foot hold whatsoever. If they'd gone Blu even Warner would then have been under pressure to drop HD DVD once and for all. It'd probably have ended this mess here and now even before the holiday season begun. That'd probably have even been enough to get Universal to finally cave in and go Blu.. idiots and money men with too much sway.

I'm more optimistic than most, but I think it will be over before the Paramount deal is up. Blu-ray has been completing owning in software sales, and due to the ps3, hardware sales as well. Counting the ps3, there are over 4 million blu-ray players out there compared to like 300,000 hd-dvd (half of which are crap 360 add ons that most wont use after their 360's break, mine did btw). Not to mention that Sony, Disney, and Fox are all putting out better movies than the other companies for the most part.

There are many facts that aren't even discussed much on this forum. For one, the advertising to the common consumer is much greater for blu-ray. I watch a decent bit of television and I have never seen a commercial advertising a movie in HD-DVD, but frequently see movie commercials at the end say "available now on dvd and blu-ray". The average consumer doesn't even know what hd-dvd is, all they have heard of is blu-ray.

Plus blu-ray sounds cooler. Game, set, match.

True-dat about the cool name. But HD-DVD does have the advantage of sounding familiar. I've always been found of Panasonic, but lately Sony has grown on me.
