Wizard of Oz was distributed by turner pictures which is now owned by WB, a format neutral company, therefore it would release on both blu ray and hddvd...however I dont think this is a movie that will release anytime soon, probably not until the format war is over. Planet of the apes, the original is distributed by 20th century fox which is exclusively blu ray and raiders of the ark will come out on both hddvd and bluray since it is a spielberg directed film

If Wizard of Oz were to be released anytime soon it would be released on both formats. Warner Bros is a format neutral company and they've been supporting bluray moreso as of late...I highly doubt that title would be released exclusively on HDDVD. Sometimes items are posted on Amazon without any confirmation of its release and as far as I know WB has no plans of releasing it anytime soon. Since it is a classic I think they're going to wait out until the format war is over to release that title. Remember also that WB announced that they will release more movies this quarter than all previous quarters combined, meaning that they are in heavy support of BD now. You should take note also that WB is trying to catch up with all its already released collection on HDDVD to bluray with the next generation of players that support BD java. For any WB release from now on, we will likely see both a bluray and Hddvd release. As for ET, it will also be released on both formats because it is a Spielberg directed movie, therefore EVEN IF , and thats a BIG If, the Wizard of Oz were to be released exclusively on HDDVD, thats still 3 of 4 movies released on bluray that you wanted to see on your list of hi def.
