Facts, pic....your comment: smart move, desperation, or else!
Last week, we mentioned that HMV Oxford Street was the place to go this morning if you were a Matrix fan and wanted to pick up a free HD DVD player -- the Toshiba HD-E1 -- with your purchase of the box set. ![]() http://crave.cnet.co.uk/dvdpvr/0,390...92674-1,00.htm Pro-B |

On one hand, I want to say "I'm Speechless".
On the other hand, how long can the Toshiba "welfare" project last? That seems to be all they do is hand out freebies. Does anyone actually buy these?? |

Quote "Wow . . . this reminds me of working at Best Buy where all the cheap people come in the day after Thanksgiving to buy the cheapest, lowest-quality shit they can possibly get their hands on. Pretty much the same thing here . . ."
Hey! I love black friday! However,.. I don't usually go to best buy since it's off the hook crazy. Ok, well I did have trouble sleeping they year before Black Friday so I went over to my local Best Buy and the line at 3AM was amazinly long. I usually do my black friday shopping at FYE because they have batteries that are free after rebate (plus we have no sales tax here in NH so it really works out to be free.) Those batteries then come in handy on X-mass day when my kids get new toys. I wouldn't take a free HD DVD player. I then would need a HDMI switcher and I would buy movies and I just would rather skip it. There's more then enough Blu Ray goodness and HD DVD can rest in peace as far as I'm concerned. -Brian |

I vote "smart move"
This is marketing, plain and simple. It gets the word out about HD-DVD at a small cost. |

Hey,
This was a smart move. Toshiba doesn't want to be left having to just keep this stuff. Soon they won't be able to give it away because people will know what it's really worth. They can't toss these things in a dumpster because of the lead and stuff so it would cost them to recycle them. I would have thought they would go to giving them away in January but goes to show HD DVD may be closer to worthless then I thought. -Brian |
