What resolution does the PS3 upgrade DVDs to...?

just found this site it is great just thought i would tell every one what gear i have just bought ps3 fantastic picture quality and sound on bluray and i think a fair bit better on all other dvds as well they say it upgrades them can any one tell me to what? i have a onkyo 5.1 amp b&w fronts jamo sub and centre speaker and jbls ceiling mounted rears lg plasma hd 1080i

What exactly is your question? What the PS3 does to upgrade the standard definition DVDs? The PS3 upconverts DVDs to 720p/1080i/1080p (depending on your TV and PS3 settings) to make them have a sharper and more crisp image.

I got a question that releates to this, on my PS3 when I do the display settings the boxes that come up are the 480P 720p 1080i and 1080p why is that I cant uncheck the 480p box? will this effect my blu ray movies?
my TV is a Samsung FP-T5084.

You should leave them all selected. When using an HDMI cable your PS3 will automatically select the best resolution based on the media it's playing.
