Smile Bestbuy price diff between website and brick&mortar

On the website it was 29.99. At the store, the gal rings me up for 34.99. Two things happened next. I spoke up about the difference and she went off to some back room and then came back ready to give me the website price. Second, when she was entering the info, I briefly saw a screen on her computer with a list of other stores and their prices.

My only question is, what's the story on this screen? Do they care if you ask to see it?

In other news, and the best part of the story, I've got another Blu-ray to watch on my PS3.

Almost forgot. I bought Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Same type thing happened as far as matches pricing on my 60A3000 tv. I went in with the TechDepot (officedepot) price and the dude said no problem, got into his computer selected "officedepot" automatically and put in the price.

done and I saved nearly $600.

Best Buy was sued because of this. If you ask to see the screen, they should show you. They cannot keep those prices hidden from you. If you ask to price match their website, they will, or at least they should.

Yes they had two websites set up. The internal one showed the customer different prices than what the customer had seen on the public website. When the customer argued they showed them the internal website that had a higher price than the public one. Nice trick..until you get caught..I try to avoid doing business with them now.

Seperately - they are also charged under the RICO act along with Microsoft for MSN account sign-ups that weren't exactly what the customer expected.

Like I said I try to avoid sending them my business.

they have two, i work at bb... and theyve never given an explination for why.... i guess the one online is 'competing' wiht online stores therefore less expensive. They DO (and i do) pricemath thier websites unlike other stores... (stupid frys)

The price difference is between their local intranet and their internet (notice the difference) web pages. They were sued earlier this year because some customer accidentally saw their intranet web page (Tagzone) which had a lower product price then BestBuy.com. I guess the customer felt a bit deceived.

Fry's is a bizarre place. It's cold, and there's a such a feeling of paranoia about the place. Why is that? I don't think of myself as an apologist for BB or CC or any other brick & mortar. But at least at those other places, that paranoia feeling is pretty much absent.

My guess with frys is that will change soon. Since they have bought the site from outpost.com to run it themselves. Once they get that worked out I would think they will price match. Not that is matters to me since I have to drive 50+ miles to get to them now. If they donot do it then I suspect they will be heading down the same road BB did.

The two different sites were as follows: 1 was instore sale pricing and promotions with the corresponding stock. 2 was the nation pricing and promotions. These two sites wouldn't always match up. The trouble was was that a store in Conn. wouldn't allow customers to access the nation site which would occasionally have lower prices. So they got sued and lost. Best Buy will show you the national price and match that price in the store.

Circuit city does also have FF2 for $29.99 plus tax, so you end up spending 3-4 bucks more but you get the movie right away!

As far as saving a couple of dollars by buying through Amazon, it all depends on the movie. If you got to have it now, well, you got to do what you got to do. I pre-ordered 300 through Amazon, and it sucked to wait. However, even though it said it wasn't going to ship for something like a week later. I still got it about 2 days after it came out. So go figure.

All that being said, I'd be doing alot more Tuesday business with them if I could just go pick it up at a store (i.e. buy on CC's or BB's website and then pick it up at their store). I mean they seem to have a partnership with Target on some things...why not blu-rays?

when she went to the backroom she checked the external websites price.
The internal site, reflects in store pricing.

The screen you saw is nothing but a drop down menu to select which store we are pricematching, In this instance...since our website isn't listed we generally select "Other" This is just for accountability purposes, trust me our POS terminals aren't high tech enough to show all our competitors pricing, I wish it were though

Yeah they are asses about price matching some stuff, ive got a lecture from just about everyone at the local BB but thank god a new one is opening in town. If they would have said no for their site then you could have said target has it for 29.99 anyways but yeah.

They don't HAVE to, but if they really want your money in the store, they will match their own site.
