Default What's happening at the brick and mortar stores regarding HD DVD sales?

If you work at any brick and morter that deals in selling HD DVDs, and HD DVD players, I would really like your input on what you are currently seeing as far as returned HD DVD players, HD DVD player Sales and the status of HD DVD movie sales.

And to the regular Joes like me, what have you seen out there in this regard?

Thank you in advance.

well at our store (high end version of sears) duds have not sold at all the whole year. The recent price cut on duds, one did sell, and we informed the guy of the situation and he already was aware. He bought if for upconversion only. We still currently carry the a3 and according to corporate this will not be discontinued anytime soon and is considered a current competitive format.

So what you're saying is HD-DVD is somehow involved with the Freemasons? Count me out of this war

Default Do you think Warner is hoping retailers won't order the HD DVD versions?

Hello all,

It is now well known that Warner chose bluray because they wanted to end the format war, but they have to keep releasing HD-DVD films until the end of May.
To encourage customers to buy the bluray version they imposed a 3 week delay for the HD-DVD version.

My question to you is:
Do you think that Warner is hoping that this delay will encourage retailers to not even bother ordering the HD-DVD version, effectively making them bluray exclusive before June.

Or do you think they are just trying to encourage people to buy the bluray version, but are hoping to make a few HD-DVD bucks on the side.
.

Share your thoughts.

my guess is that they are in contract to HD DVD until mid year. So it is all about fulfilling their obligation. I think they most likely will replicate less and retailers will buy less.

Hope has nothing to do with it. They made their decision. They are sticking by it, and expect the numbers to be lower than usual.

Lower sales numbers doesn't justify their decision, it was inevitable. But I am sure plenty of Warner employee's are proud to be part of the final blow to HD DVD.

I've grown impatient and just want them to go already, but patience. By year's end, it will be over.

The demand for Warner HD DVD titles after the 21 day wait is going to be minimal. Most people want to watch the movie in the first week of release.

I agree, the delay is a good way to promote the Blu-ray brand over the Hd. I love this move by Warner.

If they are bothering to spend the money to press them you can rest assured that they want them sold.

Default I thought Warner was delaying all of the HD DVD releases 3 weeks?

I was looking at Highdefdigest.com and it shows the Led Zeppelin Song Remains the Same Blu-Ray and Hd-Dvd are coming out the same day. Also why does Hd-Dvd have 8 titles coming that same week and Blu-Ray only has 6?

Zeppelin was supposed to be released months ago and they pulled it, so those were already in work to be released together. As for the 8 to 6, How many of those 8 are Universal and Paramount?

Only think of it as 4 HD DVDs being release because ONLY 4 of them are major titles. The other ones won't see widespread release in your major stores.

IMHO Twister will never see the light of an HD-DVD laser nor do I think that Bonnie and Clyde will be distributed unless there are enough orders outstanding to warrant a run(I doubt it). That'd leave Warners' final release to be I Am Legend which'll ship for a March 18th release (I don't believe the 3 week delay anymore and to be honest I'd rather the whole thing be over with asap).

Also, the last confirmed release by Paramount (Universal is Fletch on March 11th) is Sweeney Todd on April 1st which is just 6 weeks from now. How appropo it would/will be for HD DVD's final major release to be a musical about a barber who cuts the heads off his customers. I wonder if there are any fat ladies singing in this movie?
